Just got Fios service at my house and I'm not sure how to hook my DVDR up with the Set-Top Box. Previously I just ran cable from the wall into the DVDR and then into my TV. Now with the set top box I imagine I would still want to have the DVDR go first with the coax, however since the DVDR is SDTV would that compromise the STB in any way? Basically can someone tell me how I should chain my DVDR and STB to maximize performance. Thanks!
Connect as shown in Sketch 3 here (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showpost.php?p=12298409&postcount=10), 3505 1st on the coax, then cable STB, with line connection back to 3505 from STB for recording scrambled channels, as shown.

And that won't compromise the signal? If so then I'm set.

It shouldn't assuming the 3505 is at all similar to the Philips 3575/3576.
In fact, the 3575/3576 has an amplified coax passthru (raw incoming signal untouched), so if the 3505 does also, the downstream STB and TV might get an even better pic?

OK thanks, that all works now. Now I just need to know how to operate on a normal basis. I scanned the dtv channels using my DVDR and I have only a handful (though major ones). They seem to be in a strange order though, exept for the national networks (is there somewhere I could look up this channel line-up?). Now say I want to record something that is not in this line-up, for example USA Network. Do I have to have my STB on (50 in my case) and set my DVDR to record my E1 or do I do this someway else? Just trying to find out what I have to do now with my new setup, Thanks!

You got it right. Those channels the 3505 can't tune by itself have to come from the STB thru E1.
Check your STB manual and see if it has "timers" or "reminders" that let you set it to turn to a channel you want to see (record from) at a certain time. If it does, you can set a timer/reminder in the STB and a timer rec program in the 3505 to start when the STB turns to that channel and ends at the end time of the program.
If no STB feature like that, you'll have to manually turn the STB to a channel to record on the 3505.
