During a conference call for season 2 of his new series Dollhouse last week, Joss Whedon confirmed that a sequel is in the works to web megahit Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, according to TV Guide:

The main question, he says, is whether he does it “on a shoe string again” or goes bigger budget and “invites other people into the process.” Either way, he promises that it won’t affect the storyline.

The three-part musical starring Emmy host Neil Patrick Harris went out on the web for free last summer, then went to iTunes and then DVD in two separate releases, both of which became top sellers on Amazon.com.

Even better news for the Web is that Dr. Horrible may not be the only online series Whedon is planning. Web TV blog Tubefilter reports that Whedon is trying to raise $5 million in funding to launch his own digital studio to produce four original web series a year. He'll reportedly direct two of those shows himself. Given the success of Dr. Horrible - Tubefilter estimates the feature, which Whedon made with $200,000 of his money, brought in $2.5 million - and the studios' interest in creating shows for the web, it would seem like a sure thing.

Good news. I loved the first one and have watched it several times.

Excited for the second, but hope they keep it low budget again.
