When watching FlashForward, Grey's Anatomy the other night wife and I noticed every now and then there were flashes of red dots on parts of the picture. Made it look like a laser pointer on stuff. I also noticed it a few times on ABC college football tonight Iowa/Penn State. It only happens on ABC channel. I'm using ATT Uverse in Oklahoma City, OK area.
Edit: A good way of describing it is it looks like when you watch an older movie and there is dirt on the print and every now and then there is a flash of white dot on the screen, only with ABC it's a red dot.

Have you been to an optometrist recently? :)
Just kidding. I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary on either FlashForward or Grey's Anatomy there.
You might want to indicate what DMA you're in, and whether you were tuned in via antenna, or which cable/satellite service you were using.

No problems like you describe here in Houston. I was switching between OTA and DirecTV's feed and they were both the same.
I did notice that the DD 5.1 for FlashFoward was very poor (to be nice). With all the special effects that were used in that show, the audio should have been great. May have been a local issue since our ABC affiliate is known for their total inability to figure out how to handle DD or HD in general for that matter. I guess they did not get the memo about the switch to all digital.

For historical sake... you know that "white dot" on the movies you mention has nothing to do with dirt, right?
It's from the days when film was delivered in multiple reels to the movie theater and the projectionist needed a cue to start the next reel on a 2nd projector, then another flash to tell him to turn off the 1st projector.
Dirt on film negatives (OCN or IN) shows up as white speckles. Dirt on positives (IP or prints) shows up as dark. Really dirty negs can look like a snow storm. Scratches on negs in the emulsion side can be a color or dark depending on how deep it is (light scratches are typically blue). Cue dots are alot larger and typically in the upper right corner.
Haven't noticed the red dots, may be a local issue.

Indeed.

I watched Iowa-Penn State on OKC's ABC affiliate, KOCO, via Cox clear QAM and I didn't have the problems. Might be U-Verse...

Your not alone!! I registered just to reply to this post! ... I was wondering about the red dots also .... OK, so I was watching Desperate Housewives, and about the 36:54 point in the show, a red dot pops in Teri Hatchers hair - the red dot pops up about once a show and is just kinda strange ... I've noticed it in on other ABC shows (and only on ABC) ... I also have U-verse in the OKC area //// I havent see it in a football game, but I have seen it on Flash Forward and Modern Family (These are the only ABC fall shows I watch... I know I have seen "the dot" over the summer, but I dont remember what ABC shows I watched)... I just thought it was an HD camera thing...
U-verse records about a minute early, so if anyone wants to look for it, it popped up on Desperate Housewives during Teri Hatchers line "and you didn't just immediately pick up the phone and call me"
Edit: -- Im talking about the 10-4-09 episode of Desperate Housewives --- it also popped up twice during the Sprint/Another Desperate Housewive commercial around the 42-43 minute mark...

Nothing here in Denver OTA.
If this doesn't sound like a local issue, I don't know what does. This sounds like it should be moved to U-Verse Oklahoma thread.
