Hi,
I'm considering to get Philips DVP5990/F7 since videohelp confirmed that it's possible to hack the region code.
My question is, after researching a bit, I found several iterations of the model
Philips DVP5990/37
Philips DVP5990/12
It seems that it refers to the firmware version?
The one that I'm looking at (from Amazon) is /F7
Any idea what this means?
Thanks for the help,

According to internet posts prior to Sep 30, 2009, the F7 can be region code hacked but recently someone at videohelp.com on Sep 30, 2009, reported that the region code hack was not successful on the F7 model manufactured in Aug 2009.
I just recently acquired the DVP5990/F7 model mfd in Aug 09 so I would appreciate if someone else could confirm that the region code hack actually works on the model number and date in question.

I picked up a 5990/F7 from Best Buy today. Did the region code thing. Worked fine. It played the region 2 stuff I have from the UK as well as my normal region 1 stuff. Contrary to what the poster on videohelp said it did not brick my player.

This is very reassuring. Thanks but can you confirm the manufactured date of the F7 model you have?
