View Full Version : BH200 and 1080/24p
larrimore 09-29-09, 07:02 AM My BH200 has been working well with my Panny AE900 projector and set to "auto" resolution, I get BDs AND DVDs through at 1080/24p. I just bought a new Epson 1080 projector and connected it the same way. I get 1080/24 for BD/HD DVD but only 1080/60 on DVDs. How do I force 1080/24 for DVDs?

How do I force 1080/24 for DVDs? i have a 60 hz sony 32xbr6 and it only displays 1080p with dvds. blu rays and most HD dvds will display 1080/24P using the BH200.
what i dont get is if my tv is a 60hz should be displaying 1080/60P especially when watching blu rays or HD dvds.
have the BH200 hooked up HDMI directly to the tv. no receiver
I assume that you have the 1080p/24 "on" in the bh200 menu. It's in the last category on the setup menu, not with the other display options.
If you already have that on, or if that does not do it, keep that on and then also turn on the Qdeo processor. I swear that I used to have to have Qdeo on for 1080p/24 to work on DVD's, although for some reason I did not have to last night.
Also, be sure to try more than one DVD just to rule out a weird encoding job on a particular DVD.

I have tried it with several DVDs and checked the settings: resolution 1080P, Film mode: on, Qdeo is on. I also tried a different projector- an Optoma 1080 model and it does the same thing. Anyone getting 1080/24 out of their projectors on DVDs?

Many dsplays will accept a 1080/24 signal, but converts it internally to 1080/60. Some of them do a better job of it than others. I think the Epson Projector does that.
I just can't figure out why it will do it with BD/HD but not regular DVD, which my three year old 720P Panasonic will.
I don't think that this player will output any standard dvd at 1080p/24. I believe it will only output it at 1080p/60. If I am incorrect please let me know what settings you are using to enable this. I have two players one is running on Qdeo and the other is not running on Qdeo. Both are hooked up to Pioneer Kuros so they do accept a 1080p/24 signal.
champer 09-30-09, 04:47 PM only out put at 1080p/60 ? isnt 1080p/60 better than 1080p/24 ?
I can assure you that my BH200 is outputting DVDs at 1080p/24. I can do so by enabling 1080p/24 in the menu AND by setting the resolution to AUTO. My Lumagen HDP confirms that the signal coming into it from the BH200 is 1080p/24. I can also run at 1080i/60 and let the Lumagen do the conversion to 1080p/24, but I find that I prefer motion handling a bit better with the bh200 doing the conversion.
You want 1080p/24 for film sources, whether DVD or Bluray or HD DVD to avoid judder. 1080p/60 will introduce pull down judder due to repeated frames. You will still get something that may look like judder on pans at 24 fps, but you would see the same thing on the big screen with a film projector.
That is interesting I will have to double check what my settings are and see if I can get 1080p/24 playback out of my player for dvd. Thanks for the information and correction of my misinformation.

Wasn't there a discussion on this a while back that there was some doubt if the BH200 really was doing 24p? I thought there was someone, maybe more than one. I believe there was one who couldn't get thier processor to either detect or lock on a 24frame signal from the BH200.

For the past year, my Panasonic projector has displayed it is getting a 1080/24p signal from my BH200 on HD/BD and on BDs. It does look smoother to me.
Now on the Epson, and a Mitsubishi projector I am trying, they both say they are getting 1080/60p from DVDs and 1080/24p from DVDs. I have the resolution set to 1080p and the fim mode "on" (or whatever the 24 hz. setting is in the last section of the menu). I have also tried changing the resolution to "auto" and get the same results.
If I set my bh200 to output at 1080i my Lumagen HDP reports an input signal of 1080i 60. If I set my bh200 to output at "auto" and turn on film mode, my Lumagen HDP reports 1080p 24. My Lumagen cannot take a 1080p 60 signal (not without doing screwy things), but it can play long enough for it to show an input of 1080p 60. As such, at least on mine, using the second to the last firmware (had trouble trying to flash newest firmware... thankfully since it is buggy), mine appears to be capable outputting 1080p 24 properly, that includes for both HD and DVD.
