Hi I recently jusy purchased a QIP6416-2 and it said it was a cable modem and said nothing about it being for FIOS. Well I think I can make this work by converting the firmware back to normal or getting the version the comcast has on theirs. Does anyone know how to do this or give me pointers?

another thought is that i have i do have access to a hd dvr from comcast. Would it be possible to erase all data on that dvr and transfer all information from the comcast one to the "verizon" one?
I don't think anyone short of Motorola's in-house engineering department can do what you want.

I apologize that you find no help in the truth.
thank you for that incredibly unhelpful commentIn the US, their are no STBs available via retail channels So, few if any cable companies will allow a user purchased box (generally stolen) on their network. I believe that cable boxes are must be registered in the cable company computer system before it will function - and they only do that for their boxes.
In the case of the FIOS box you have, it probably would not be recognized as Comcast compatible, even if you did succeed in changing out the firmware.
Hence, what you have is a doorstop...

I like the words "I do have access to a hd dvr from comcast". You do NOT legally have access to an hd dvr from comcast unless you are renting it from comcast.

Just curious, where did you get it and what did it set you back? And why didn't you post this before you bought it?
He probably got it off eBay. There's another one up for auction on there right now.

Cable companies will not activate any Motorola, Cisco/SA, Pace, or Samsung boxes except those that they supply for a rental fee.
