View Full Version : ZV457MG9 - clock and record timer problems - please help !
Pepperman 09-30-09, 03:27 PM Yesterday I got a Magnavox ZV457MG9 and I successfully recorded a show last night using the automatic record timer.
Today I went to set up another show for timer record and noticed the clock was ahead by exactly 4 hours (also noticed the same problem on my recently bought H2160MW9).
I had set the clocks manually and had both the clock "auto set" and DST features turned off.
Is there any solution or is it just a known quirk in these models that you just have to keep resetting the clocks ?
Also, on the ZV457MG9 unit when I went to set another automatic timer record I kept having 2 problems:
1.) when it got to the "channel selection" part it would not let me change the channel number to record, it had the channel that the unit was on for live viewing, the only way I could change the setting for which channel to record was to go to live tv and change to the channel and then go back and start programing the timer record again. (didn't have this problem yesterday)
2.) when I was finished setting the info for the timer record and went to hit the "OK" button to save it, nothing would happen, it would not save it. (yesterday it saved ok)
I unplugged the unit for a while (not a hard reset) the time and channels were still saved, and the "OK" button worked again to save the record timer program, - but - the problem with not being able to change the channel number when setting up a timer record is still happening.
Any solutions would be apreciated !
The problems again:
1.) both the ZV457MG9 and the H2160MW9 clocks jumping ahead exactly 4 hours overnight.
2.) the ZV457MG9 timer record program not allowing the channel number to be changed from what it is on live tv.
Thanks in advance for any help !
Pepperman 09-30-09, 09:22 PM I tried searching the internet but could find no solutions yet, so perhaps these particular problems are unusual and not that many people have had them (or they just not have posted much on the internet about them)
.....they can send a man to the moon so why can't they make an affordable recorder that works likes it supposed to ? :-/
When you unplug one of these, the clock settings revert to default, which is Auto Clock ON. Check those settings again and make sure your still OFF on Auto Clock.
The channel problem not sure of, but if the clock is not acting properly for whatever reason, it's tied like a twin to the timer rec program and programming.
It might be better to do a hard reset... if the 2160 is actually set with Auto Clock OFF now, then press SKIP 123 then OK on the grey screen. Not sure if same for the ZV.

Thanks, I'll see about giving that a try tomorrow.
Is the "skip 123" and "ok" for doing the hard reset on the 2160 or something you do after doing a hard reset ?
I had not tried it yet but on the ZV you are supposed to hold down the "on" button when you plug it back in to do a hard reset.

On the 2160, that SKIP 123 + OK is the hard reset.
The hold Power button trick also applies to the 2160 so, if the ZV has a Skip button(?), it may have the same SKIP 123 + OK function as the 2160 for a true hard reset?
If you really would like an Auto Clock function, there's a "11:57 Procedure" for setting a MANUAL channel to search for a time signal. It allows you to confirm that you're getting a good time signal on a specific channel, then confines the midnight and noon time search to just that channel. This assures your unit(s) won't find a "rogue" signal out there that, at times, even freezes units (like my local access channel).
Here's The 11:57 Procedure for Manual (single-channel) auto-clock function. (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showpost.php?p=12298425&postcount=11)

I have recently bought the ZV457MG9A (2009 model) and H2160MW9 both have no timer problem at all. I did not use the manuals to set them up. Just simply power up, went to the setup with the remote, manually setup the clock, scan the digital channels and then timer recording. No problem at all with both timers. No jumping of time on the machines.
Church AV Guy 10-18-09, 11:35 AM I don't really know much of anything about this machine, but is it possible that there is a time zone entry, EDT, CDT, etc, and you have that set incorrectly? It might be geting the correct time, and it THINKS it is correcting for the hour based on a time zone setting.
Just a thought.
