I have an Epson 1080UB Home Cinema projector, has about 850 hours on the lamp.
Current problem: When I turn of the projector it warms up and produces a great image (that I modified of course) then about 45 seconds to a minute later all of a sudden the image just cuts down in brightness, contrast etc. It loses I’d say about 25% of the brightness instantly. You can watch it happen every time.
This has just started in the last few days. Any ideas on what is going wrong?
Thanks.

make sure the lamp is not set to low or eco mode... they start on high and then drop back about a minute on the Mitsubishi I have displays a little box in the corner to say it is set to low when it drops down.

Yeah the lamp is on low. Does it really start up in high and then drop like that? I can't believe I wouldn't have noticed that before.
Anyone else here with the Epson, can they confirm it does that?

I've got a similar problem with my 1080UB with just short of 1300 hours on the lamp.
Starting a few days ago, the projector now gradually warms up to a usable image taking 3-4 minutes. This used to take under a minute. When the image finally settles, it seems to be about 60-70 percent of the brightness compared to a few days ago. I haven't measured this yet so this is a subjective estimate.
Will replacing the lamp (didn't really expect to do that after so few hours) solve this?
I run the projector at Theatre Black 1, high lamp mode.
Update: Half an hour after posting this, my lamp gave the answer itself; it popped out of life. I'm waiting for it to cool down, so I'm just hoping it did not explode. It lasted about 5 hours after starting it's strange behaviour, so to the original poster: beware. Mine lasted a total of 1286 hours.
Update2: It seems I had an explosion; sounds like pieces of glass moving about when I handle the projector. I have not been able to verify this as the lamp-module is completely stuck on the side furthest away from the lense (diagonally). I have loosened both screws but even with a substatial amount of force applied, the module stays put. Any tips on what I can do?
Update3: I finally managed to get the module loose and there had been a minor explotion with some glass-particles escaping the lamp. I have cleaned up the dust I could access, but must assume some have escaped into the other parts of the projector. Do I need to get this cleaned professionally or can I manage this myself?

Mine does this too on low setting. Mitsubishi though.

Every projector I've ever had does that. Starts in high for about a minute and then adjusts to low if low is set in the menu.
