I am a newbie here but I have a question for all of you AV gurus.
I am looking at getting a new DVR with either a DVD or Blue-Ray player, I was looking for one that has a digital tuner and speaker out puts so I can use remote speakers with it. Does anyone know if they make such an animal, and if so what brand and model is it?

There are DVD recorders with built-in TV tuners. You can record shows to DVD, but they're down-converted to standard DVD resolution (no HD). I think some may have hard drives as well, but I haven't yet seen any with Blu-ray capability.

they can only record in standard defintion cause they only have composite and s video inputs. but if the recorder has a hard drive and its an upconverter as well it will play the videos that you recorded in HD.

There are several models by LG and Panasonic that can record HDTV to a hard drive and from there burn to Blu-ray. For some reason they don't seem to be available in the US, though -- only in Europe and the Asia-Pacific so far.

You are not going to find all of those in one device.

You may be able to find an all in one Home Theater in a Box that has a blu-ray player, amplifier and speakers, but it won't have a DVR.

If you need HD recording, the TiVo or Dish Network DTVPal DVR are your only choices. If you don't need HD recording / playback there are several DVD recorders with digital tuners.
