After reading this forum and others, have narrowed my selection to the Pana S10 or X10 plasmas in the 50 inch variety.

Usage :
- Mostly 720p content for movies / DVDs, some SDTV
- Australian Free to Air Digital TV (not sure 720p or 1080i)


The X10 is signifcantly cheaper (obviously), but I'm worried about shooting myself in the foot by getting a 720p TV (i.e. future requirements).

How does the S10 handle downsampling to 720? As good as watching natively on the X10?

Any aussie members out there who can comment on 720p vs 1080p for Aussie Freeview?

Will SDTV look better on the S10 or X10?

Basically I'd like to go with the S10 provided that the 720p display / upsampling will look as good as on the X10, as this is the majority of high def content that will be watched.

Even thought Panasonic calls the X10 a "720P" set the screen is actually 768P so there will always be some scaling. (Unless there is a native mode which leaves 48 lines off).

Most likely Australian digital TV is mostly 1080i.
