I'm doing a drive through Scottsdale somewhere around the 14-15th of Oct on the way home from Los Angeles. I'm stopping to see Tim Martin. Wanna get together to bash around subjectivity vs objectivity?

This could be the great Canadian vs US showdown! :D

I am not interested in wasted debates, more interested in enjoying movies and music in my dedicated theater & audio room.

You interested?

But certainly you know I jest? I'd just like to stop by and say hi. Not sure of my schedule yet, but if you want to PM me your phone number, I'll give you a shout when I'm in the area.

Now, if you'd bash around each other ... that would be a show. :D

I know all Dhese boys, Dennis, and they are all very very passive. Definitely not bashers.

Thanks, but I prefer my bashing to be active, there's less phase shift that way. :p

Leaving tomorrow AM, The one hit wonder 'Sausalito Summernight' comes to mind. 225K miles on the old 2002 Rav 4. I have faith...

Ob was kind enough to email me to see if I want to stop by, my next email is to him in the affirmative. THAT will be fun!

Only 7 years old, hmm, it still is a Toyota, isn't it.

That's exactly why I have no problems taking it. Did I mention.. original clutch? The darn thing just won't give out (knocking on wood!). I'm good on clutches though, most last me 150K, but 225K miles???? (230K by the time I'm done this trip.)

For a gasoline version 450,000 Km is indeed quite a lot, even a diesel doesn't get driven that much, too often, although that is more common. Not in the develloped world, perhaps after they are exported;-).

Given that I've put 300K Km on every vehicle that I've driven, I'm very much a fan of 1 vehicle, 1 owner/driver, as long as it's well maintained. I've never blown an engine, tranny, clutch, rad, etc, but every second hand car that I've bought to repair has had multiple problems. I've been flipping cars and vans between 200 and 300K km, but am running this Rav 4 into the ground. I figure I'll do 500K Km, or 300 K miles without blowing anything major.

I'll probably even rebuild the Rav engine myself if it ever blows, I've done enough engines that I'm pretty sure I can handle it.

Ironically, all of the problems so far on the Rav took place in the first 100K Km of ownership, and all were covered under warranty.

-bad transmission right from the factory
-bad water pump at 60K
-bad cat converter at 98K
-bad CD player
-reprogramming of the computer- software issue covered under a recall
-dent from inside out on one door

Everything past 100K km that wasn't routine service has consisted of the serpentine belt replacement and this past summer a wheel bearing finally failed. That's it. That's also why I only buy foreign cars. in 18 months or whenever the Rav dies, I'll probably get a Honda Pilot or similar, it MUST have standard transmission. The new Toyotas only come in auto. Boooo!

Curt, if you are still in the Phoenix area, call me again!!

Sorry, came and went. Time to sue Verizon. :)

I met up with Tim, drove a total of 5800 Km (3600 miles) in 8 days. Met piles of people, took over 450 pictures, from northern California to LA to Scottsdale and SLC and back home. I drove from SLC to Vancouver today, 1000 miles, 1600 Km in about 17 hours. I'm beat.

80MPH speed limit in Utah helped. :)

I'm used to the double nickels here in BC (65 in far out of town places sometimes), so the 75-80 speed limits were a treat. Too bad I had to drive them in an aging Rav 4, but it took it in stride.

I have two man missions in life:

-drive all 50 states, with enough time to sight see.
-eat at every fast food chain in North America.

Despite cleaning up my diet a bit, I am still a sucker for fast food. Here in Canada we have no JITB, In and Out, Sonic, WHite Castle, etc, etc, so each trip to the US is a new taste sensation. This trip I ate at Sonic in SLC. Not too bad, but unfortunately I was not in the mood for chocolate (a very rare occasion), so I didn't try the treats that they are known for.
