View Full Version : Beast of Hollow Mountain-MGM-HD

Can you believe that were're finally going to get to see this and in HD!!!
It's not a great sci-fi monster movie by any stretch of the imagination or anything near Harryhausen, but it is a stop motion classic written by O'Brien.
I've never seen it, only parts of it. I know it was on LD, but never on SD, unless it was a bootleg. Not sure about VHS.
Knowing MGM, it'll be in 2.35:1 and won't that be great!

That's putting it mildly. A Western with a little bit of dinosaur.
Hope retirement is treating you well, inspector...

It's been in HD before. Saw it around a year back. If memory serves, the transfer was excellent (despite some film scratches).n

CW...retire was the best thing I ever did and 'am loving it. Someday you'll get to enjoy yours too! Stay safe.

I can't wait!
opieant 10-03-09, 01:24 AM Also on 10-14, 10-19, and 10-30 according to MGM's online schedule. I guess we can try to enjoy its non-greatness over and over again. :)

You must not have seen the one I saw, which aired on one of the Cinemax channels. It was cropped and zoomed, way too grainy, and looked like it was out of focus half the time.

Actually, I think I embarked on my retirement before you did (two years as of Aug 27th). Lots of guilt because I don't get more accomplished, lots of naps.
Anyway, back to Beast. I actually saw this one as a child at a kiddie matinee. I remember the beast scared me a little. The rest bored me a lot.

Yes, Cinemax crops everything...even the meticulously restored HOW THE WEST WAS WON was cropped, eliminating nearly two-thirds of the image!!But the version of BEAST I sawe was thankfully OAR. )Can't remember what channel it was...maybe SHOWTIME. At any rate, MGM-HD shows all their films in the proper aspect ratio...so enjoy!
inspector 10-04-09, 05:14 AM What a beautiful print! Wow, if more BDs could look that good.
There was about 3 scenes that had vertical lines running thru it, but the rest was super.
The funny scenes were the distant shots of the dinosaur running and sticking out this gigantic red tongue. They did animate that pretty well.
All in all a true monster movie classic! I wish they'd release it in BD, but I know it's a pipe dream.
