View Full Version : Epson 6100 vs Panasonic AE2000
dumalkin 10-03-09, 05:06 AM Hi,
I can get Epson 6100 or adding some 30% to the price of Epson - Panasonic AE2000 (old, discontinued model).
I can't find any comparision between those two models - Epson is more new, Panasonic is older, they are also from different price ranges.
I'd be happy to get you recommendations, specially from people with hands-on experience with both projectors.
Thanks,
buddahead 10-03-09, 08:01 AM I had the ae2000.Have a 6100 now.Myself I like the 6100 better.One reason'Sharpness.But the ae2000 throws a fine pic.Has great color and film like image.But the ae2000 I had got dust blobs after 40 hours.This was a big problem with this model.
briandx 10-03-09, 09:12 AM Hey Buddahead! I am a 2 year owner of the AE2000, and I have really enjoyed this projector (no dust blobs, great color, plenty bright), except that I feel this projector is a tad soft.
I really covet a razor sharp picture (like my first unit the Mitsu 5000), however I shied away from the 6100 last year due to the reported focusing problems.
Are you saying that the 8100 (if it is like the 6100) will have a noticably sharper picture than my 2000?
This question is REALLY important to me, as I am seriously considering switching the the 8100 next month.
Thanks!
Brian
dumalkin 10-03-09, 10:37 AM Hey Buddahead!
So if I get you right, you think panny isn't worth more money.
I think I'll wait till 8100 is released, and then go for it or for 6100 if its price drops significantly.
buddahead 10-03-09, 11:53 AM Hi Brian'Yes the 6100 is quite a bit sharper than the ae2000.Art mentions that in his review that the 6100 is one of the sharper 1080p fp around. If you go back to his ae2000 review he mentions that he wished the ae2000 was sharper. This is more than likely due to pannys smoothscreen. And when I first viewed the 6100 I was taken by how sharp the pic is.Very noticeable.Even the wife who does not have a clue about fp's said wow that is so sharp. The focusing problem has been solved.I doublt that the 6100 will drop much in price.I do not think the ae2000 would be better than the 6100.Now the ae3000 has better blacks and suppose to be a little sharper than the ae2000.Plus the ae 2000 3000 has the scaling thing and FI.But for the price of the 6100 and the soon to be 8100 at their price are just hard to beat.
briandx 10-03-09, 12:28 PM Hmm.... Good information. So if it turns out that the 8100 is just a tad better than the 6100 overall without the early focusing problems of the 6100 at a cheaper price, it looks like a 8100 will find a place in my home in early November.
One more quick question... Even after the 6100 de-focusing issues were solved, did you find yourself having to "touch-up" the focus every now and then? I haven't had to touch my Panasonic 2000 focus ring in 9 months.
Regards,
Brian

My 6100 (bought in January) had the de-focus problem, and Epson sent a replacement. It has had absolutely no de-focusing problem whatsoever. It has been 100% rock solid. I haven't touched the focus ring at all in months.
briandx 10-05-09, 07:30 AM Thanks! That is the answer that I was hoping for :)
briandx 10-05-09, 08:44 AM One other important question to ask for 6100 owners out there:
Has anyone had problems with dust blobs? Although I personally have not had this issue with my Panasonic AE2000, I know a lot of other folks out there (like buddahead) have.
briandx 10-05-09, 04:03 PM anyone?
Kilgore 10-05-09, 09:49 PM anyone?
I haven't had any.
briandx 10-06-09, 06:41 AM Thanks. I'll take the lack of dust blob complaints as a good sign:)
