View Full Version : Ye Olde "green picture" problem (new to me)

I haven't been here for a while because everything was working fine and I wasn't planning to replace anything, but...

...and I know this is a well-established and fairly simple problem which probably has a simple solution, because I've seen others talk about it more than once, but I never paid much attention because I didn't have the problem myself back then, soooo...

For a few years, I was using my PC for movies, connected to my InFocus ScreenPlay 5000 by DVI. That worked fine, so I know the projector can do the right colors. I've recently been in the process of abandoning my HTPC in favor of separate dedicated devices. The new Blu-Ray player and receiver have worked perfectly well with a smaller screen/monitor, so I know that they can send the right colors. But the new Blu-Ray player and receiver, connected to the projector by component cables, combine to give a very green picture.

I thought the projector might have a faulty connection behind one of the three component jacks, but I got the same result through the projector's VGA jack with an adapter from the component cable. So unless there are two separate problems in the same projector with the same symptoms, I figure it's got to be a signal incompatibility issue; the signal from the source is good and the projector is good, but they're two different types that aren't meant to work together.

So, what is going on behind the greenness, and how have others with the same problem handled it before?

Not sure this applies and I don't know the exact acronyms but there is a thing called color spacing.. RBG and another with a bunch of letters .. I think one is HD and the other SD video. If they do not match between the source and display device the color will be all messed up. This has happened to me a couple of time by accident and freaked me out big time. Hope this helps and good luck!

Using straight component cables (not VGA to component adapters) the Blu Ray player connected directly to the projector should have worked properly.

Is there a menu setting in the projector (or in the player) to choose between component/YUV/Y-Pb-Pr and RGB/VGA/PC? This way you can make the two match each other.

Sorry about seeming to ignore my own thread... I didn't get my email that there were responses. Anyway, I figured out what happened, and it was a classic one-D-ten-T error. (Write it out with the numbers as digits.)

I've been using the same projector and receiver for both component and composite sources, but only ran one component connection between them. When I use a composite source, I just unplug the red component heads and move them over to the composite jacks. But I left one end that way when I tried to use the composite source, so the projector was only getting signals from the blue and green heads of the component connection.

Now I'll go smack myself in the head until I can't see colors anymore anyway...:o
