I spent a very fast paced 4 hours at the 2009 Rocky Mountain Audio Fest in Denver on Friday. My goal was to photograph as many of the rooms as I had time for and then shoot the remainder on Sunday if my regular work schedule allowed. Moving fast through this large of a venue obviously did not provide me time for critical listening, so questions akin to "how did you like the sound of 'brand X' " would be irrelevant. Hopefully Sunday will allow some time for relaxed listening, but that was not the case on Friday.

Although I tried my best I did manage to misplace a few of the room manufacturers (gear) lists, and a few may be incomplete or somewhat inaccurate. Like I said - I was moving fast! If you have this information simply PM me the info and I will make the appropriate corrections rather than buggering up the thread with this extraneous info. Thanks.

Finally, I am not playing favorites and I am not a representative (paid or otherwise) for any of the companies represented in my photos, they are merely posted in the order that I shot them. If a room or manufacturer is not represented either I have not yet shot it, I inadvertently missed it, or I was not satisfied with with the photos and chose not to post them (hey, no one is perfect).

I have never heard of 80% of those companies and have been into high end audio for a very long time. I wonder how they ever get "shelf space" in dealer showrooms so they can ever sell any of what they make.

Very nicely done. I went in '07 and tried to get as many photos as possible. You did a much better job than I did.

Lot's of ceramic this year. Marten and Kharma have some competition.

Very good job with the photos! As to the joist hanger; doesn't look like they used pressure treated timber! What were they thinking!!!

Well, if pressure treated lumber might have copper in it as a fungicide. As such, it could create a weak capacitor against the conductor in the cable itself, impacting its electrical characteristic!!! :eek: :D

It's difficult to imagine how all these enterprises manage to survive. I guess the business model is not so dissimilar from that of the art world: As long as you can find or develop a few patrons, you get by.

In the Photo covering the Audio by Van Alstine equipment, AVA was joint venturing the room with Salk Signature Sound speakers, www.salksound.com The speakers on display were the Songtowers (smaller ones) and the HT4 (larger ones).

This thread is intended as nothing more than my 'photo representation' of the event, never was implied to be and in-depth accounting or review. The reason they were down for a bit is that I have already found 4 forums that were live-linking to this thread and two that had actually copy-pasted the entire thread right into their forums as though it was their own creation. These were located in Croatia, Norway, Japan and I think France (so far).

Since the links are out there I decided to add watermarks and tagging to all of the photos. They can still steal them, but at least I get some credit for my work. I generally don't like watermarking, but I also don't like others swiping my pics and bandwidth without my blessing. Enjoy!

Two things I did see a lot of were computers/servers as audio sources and DACs with USB or 1394 inputs. Even in the photos there are plenty of laptops and in the MBL room a Mac being used a the primary source.

I've long been a fan and advocate of computer based audio and have all of my own CDs ripped to FLAC on my server in the basement, interesting to see it really starting to penetrate the high-end world.

Still, turntables and tube amps seemed to dominate the show and I don't envision that computer-based audio will supplant those anytime soon.
