Greetings,

Can someone tell me the best way to add a 2nd active sub to THIS (Larger View) (http://www.yamaha.com/yamahavgn/CDA/ContentDetail/EnlargedImage.html?CNTID=552419) reciever?

Current sub is on "Subwoofer" pre-amp out.

Could I just use an RCA splitter?

Thx,

OK I searched again and found an answer. It looks like it will work but it would be smart to buy the exact same model sub as I already have. Even then sometimes 1 sub sounds better than 2, as bass cancelling can become an issue.

Why do you think you need a second sub?

Why do you think you need a second sub?

I probably don't really "need" a 2nd sub. But these are the reasons I am currently looking into it:

1. I can get the exact model I already have for for $45.00.
2. I've read that many people have noticed a considerable improvement.
3. I like bass?

How much of an improvement it will make I dont know. So the only "real" reasoning is to try it out and see I reckon'.

Realistically I should probably upgrade my center channel speaker first, but that is going to be a big hit on the wallet, so I figure a 2nd sub may ease my curiosity and spending urgency for awhile..

Those are the only reasons I can think of.

Do you advise against it?

Yes, you can just use an RCA splitter.

Not at all. :D Just was curious.

Yes, you can just use an RCA splitter.

And that's the solution. :p

Let us know how it works out.

RCA splitters work well, but another solution would be if your sub has a line out on it, just take from that and daisy chain into the next active sub. You could keep going like this as many times as you want. You dont have to worry about crossover frequencies since that is set in the receiver itself and only the frequencies below the crossover are getting to the subs anyway.

Maybe. Depends if the line out is through the subwoofers crossover though. Check the manual to see if this is the case. If it's via the high pass crossover of the sub, then the second sub wouldn't really be getting any sub signal at all really...
