Hey guys unfortunately i dont have the time to read a 1700 post thread . Im ready to order FIOS RIGHT NOW !
Please tell me do i have any options on increasing the HD storage ? Can i buy external HD or TIVO and get cable cards ? I thought TIVO was only 20hrs too ?
Can you open the FIOS box and change the hard drive ?
20 Hrs sucks !!!!
Im sure this has been gone over again and again , I AM SORRY !
Sick of BH and ready to order NOW........BUT 20hrs
The FiOS' Motorola DVR does not support drive expansion and you cannot upgrade the hard drive. The firmware is "hard coded" to use a maximum of 160GB. Verizon does plan to offer a higher capacity (i.e. 320GB) DVR next year.
The TivoHD and Moxi both support FiOS using one Verizon CableCard (M-CARD). Both support external drive expansion. The TivoHD is available in 160GB and 1TB models, and both models allow internal drive upgrades. It costs $80-$90 to upgrade the 160TB model to 1TB.

Once you open the tivo isnt the warranty voided ?
Also where do you find a 1tb drive to put in there and how difficult is it to do ?
Im not very knowledgable about all this so please excuse my ignorance.
So with tivo i would ask fios for 1 m-card ?
Once you open the tivo isnt the warranty voided ? Yes, it will. If you don't want to void the warranty, then you can always buy a My DVR Expander. I prefer the internal drive approach, however.
Also where do you find a 1tb drive to put in there and how difficult is it to do ? You can see a list of recommended drives here (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=11126048#drives). Instructions are here (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=11126048#upgrade).
It's not difficult. The drive is easy to remove. You connect the original drive to your computer and click "backup" in a free program. Then you connect the new drive and click "restore." That's it.
So with tivo i would ask fios for 1 m-card ?Yes, although you only need to ask for a CableCard. FiOS only carries M-CARDs now. They just list "CableCards" in their system.
