The FiOS' Motorola DVR does not support drive expansion and you cannot upgrade the hard drive. The firmware is "hard coded" to use a maximum of 160GB. Verizon does plan to offer a higher capacity (i.e. 320GB) DVR next year.

The TivoHD and Moxi both support FiOS using one Verizon CableCard (M-CARD). Both support external drive expansion. The TivoHD is available in 160GB and 1TB models, and both models allow internal drive upgrades. It costs $80-$90 to upgrade the 160TB model to 1TB.

Once you open the tivo isnt the warranty voided ?

Also where do you find a 1tb drive to put in there and how difficult is it to do ?

Im not very knowledgable about all this so please excuse my ignorance.

So with tivo i would ask fios for 1 m-card ?

Once you open the tivo isnt the warranty voided ? Yes, it will. If you don't want to void the warranty, then you can always buy a My DVR Expander. I prefer the internal drive approach, however.

Also where do you find a 1tb drive to put in there and how difficult is it to do ? You can see a list of recommended drives here (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=11126048#drives). Instructions are here (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=11126048#upgrade).

It's not difficult. The drive is easy to remove. You connect the original drive to your computer and click "backup" in a free program. Then you connect the new drive and click "restore." That's it.

So with tivo i would ask fios for 1 m-card ?Yes, although you only need to ask for a CableCard. FiOS only carries M-CARDs now. They just list "CableCards" in their system.
