View Full Version : Does Dish have a $30 per month HD package? Not any more.
Awesomeness 10-04-09, 08:30 PM I remember about the time I got cable that Dish was offering a HD only package with no SD. It was $25 per month, and they offered Cinemax for a penny. There was none of this 24 month sign up required at higher prices after the intro expires, it was really a straight $25 per month forever. Is that deal still alive? I think it was called Absolute or Turbo??? I only watch 4 or 5 HD channels and don't want to pay $40 a month.
It was AbsoluteHD for $29.99 per month... and is no longer available (stopped being available August 1st 2008 I believe).

You should have taken it then, It was and still is $29 though it is no longer offered, those that had/have it are grandfathered in at that rate though no new programming can be added.
Nothing it does not have will make me change to another package:D
On the other hand Dish has reduced the cost of adding HD to their regular packages. It used to be $10 for the HD upgrade to the SD package plus a second $10 for the HD only channels. For new customers it is now $10 for both. Some existing customers in good standing have gotten the new rate also. (My self and also a co-worker.)

It is still too pricey for me. I don't like throwing money away, and their fees add up. I only want a couple HD channels and not everything they offer. If it was only $20-25 a month to get a basic HD package (TNT, TBS, AMC, Discovery, A&E ect) I would do it. Anything more than that price and it just isn't something I want to pay for.
The market is ready for someone to offer a $19.99 HD stand alone package. I think it would sell very well. It wouldn't need that many channels, just the most basic ones that are cheap for the carrier to provide.

I would have swore it was $25 a month. Was there a HD package before AbsoluteHD that was $25 for about 20 HD channels?

The whole point is that if I have a HDTV and I'm getting the SD then I do not need the SD channels. When are these companies going to learn to offer thing people want instead of trying to force them to pay for stuff they don't? I'm on cable and the HD is lacking I was ready to give Dish a try because they offered HD only packages for a decent price. Then they pull this BS. Well guess what I'm still on cable. So Dish just lost a potential customer. DUMB DUMB DUMB.
Charles R 10-09-09, 02:16 PM I was going to get it also. And when I last looked it was $40 a month. Never saw it lower. It may have started out at $25 with some discount you didn't see or something. But everywhere I looked it was $40 after everything was said and done at the end there. May have been cheaper at first with less channels? By the end it probably had more channels and a higher price and no discount.
I believe it was always the same price. I looked into it shortly after it became available and signed up shortly before it expired ($29.99 a month + $4.95 for the VIP722). The only discount offered (beyond free installation) was Cinemax and its related channels for one year for one penny if you signed up for credit card billing. After one-year Dish charged me another penny and I still have those channels.
As far as channels go you receive/received every HD channel (outside of HBO, etc.) they had up to a certain cut-off date. After that date you don't receive any of the new channels and if they drop a channel you were receiving they have been swapping it for another (for the good or bad).
Rammitinski 10-09-09, 02:25 PM I would have swore it was $25 a month. Was there a HD package before AbsoluteHD that was $25 for about 20 HD channels?Nope - not before Absolute. Only "add-ons". You may be thinking of the "Turbo Packages", which came after and were just recently discontinued - at least from being advertised on the website.

But you won't get any new HD channels added to the packages, like with those who still have the Absolute.
Rammitinski 10-09-09, 02:36 PM I was going to get it also. And when I last looked it was $40 a month. The "Bronze Turbo" package, which was (is - if you can still manage to get it) the lowest and didn't include your local RSN, was about $10.00 or $15.00 lower than that.
Sit down by the phone, get ready to play CSR roulette and deal, and you may still get it.
Check the satellite forums (like DBS Talk and Satellite Guys) and see if anyone's still getting the Turbo's. I really haven't checked in a few weeks now.

That is the package that was $25 per month. Turbo Bronze HD. I remember they claimed it was 30 HD channels but it was only 20-25 plus a couple pay-per view HD channels they counted. I didn't get it because locals were another $5, a DVR was another $5, and a second television box was another $5 making it $40 per month.
