I recently became the owner of a new (old stock) NEC LT280 XGA projector. This is a starter projector for me until I move up to 1080P. I have it ceiling mounted in a basement theater that I am building. I am using a 80 inch 4:3 DIY stretched blackout cloth screen.

With less than 30 hours on the projector, I have two dust blobs. One is very faint and near the middle of the screen, no one can see this unless they are looking for it so I am fine with it and any number of similar dust blobs that may appear. The other blob is a bright D-shaped green blob near the right of the screen that is clearly visible and annoying on any dark scene. The blob is about 6 inches tall on my screen.

I tried compressed air with no luck in cleaning or moving the blob. I have no warranty on this projector, so at this point I need to take it apart. I searched for a disassembly guide and could not find one. Anyone have some pointers for getting inside this unit? Thanks

Did you try pulling the lamp then hitting it with compressed air?

Got pics?

That's not going to help. He's going to have to open the projector to clean the LCD panels and optics. That's where the dust is. Any dust on the lamp, if that's what you're thinking, will not be visible in the image. It is unfocused light at that point. Dust elsewhere will not be accessible from the lamp position.

Ocellaris, if you feel confident to open it, PM me. I have the manual for that model. It's involved, but doable. Of course, you go in at your own risk.

I have no problem taking things apart. Most of the tear downs I have seen look pretty doable, so hopefully the LT280 is nothing out of the ordinary. I sent you a PM with my email address, thanks!
