My COX provider uses the Explorer 8240HDC model. I have order an IOMEGA 34508 Expander one Tarabyte drive and find hundreds of threads on the Explorer 8300 and external eSATA interface. I find very little about the Explorer 8240HDC. Even the Explorer 8300 operation manual has better information about hooking up an external eSATA interface.
Is the Explorer 8300 a later model then the 8240HDC? Most threads say they are the same except the 8240HDC only has the digital tuner.
Thanks

Actually the 8240HDC is slightly newer than the 8300HDC, and both are newer than the 8300HD (the HDC units incorporate CableCARDs for security services, which was mandated as of July '07).
And yes, the only difference between the 8300HDC and the 8240HDC is that the latter only has QAM digital tuners; if that's all your cableco provides, that means they either (a) don't have *any* analog channels, or (b) all their analog channels have ADS (analog-digital simulcast) equivalents on their infrastructure. If they're offering the 8240HDC, they know (generally) what they're doing by offering it.

Thanks, for the detail information. I could not find it and I looked many places for the answer.
