I'm looking to get a backlight but wondered what the consensus is for this and what product is best? Is there an inexpensive solution out there? I currently have an aluminum desklight behind my corner seated 50" plasma with a 6500K 40wt equivalent bulb in it. Its tough to gage its effectiveness and positioning. Would love to see pics or critiques of whats out there, the other threads are somewhat dated.

I heard that ideal-lume is pretty good, although I personally don't own any. i was doing my research when I was getting one, and ideal appear to have a good reputation. I was going to put my TV on the wall with a back light but i wound up get a cabinet.

You can get a 6,500k bulb and a cheap fluorescent fixture at Home Cheapo or Lowe's (or wherever). (Which is what you've done.) I've had Idealume and the cheapo, but not at the same time. I do like lighting the wall behind the TV, though.
You also need the proper wall behind the TV. The color of the light will shift based on the wall's color.
I have a couple of ideal-lume's. Great product and the bulbs last forever. The big difference vs. a Lowe's or Depot bulb is you get a lot more of that fluorescent flickering with their bulbs which is annoying. Plus you get some light filtering with the ideal-lume's.
