Ok so here is a background on what I am trying to do so you can better understand why I want this type of cable. I recently got an Epson PowerLite 77c projector on the cheap, now I know it is meant for business presentations and such but it can pull some decent HT duty as well, here is the Amazon page with specs

http://www.amazon.com/Epson-PowerLite-Lumen-Multimedia-Projector/dp/B000Q5X85I/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

It only does a 1024 x 768 (yet it says it does HD 720P or 1080i????) but honestly I was amazed at how good a regular old “HD Quality” AVI file played from my laptop looked with this projector, the image was bright, sharp and filmlike. Again I realize there are much better out there but honestly for the price I paid and the low maintenance cost this thing is sweet. The bulb will last 3000 hours in high brightness mode and 4000 in low brightness and they only cost $170 to replace.

So now let’s get to the bad points, the inputs  well it has a VGA of course, which thankfully will also accepts a component signal with the right cable which I have found for $2.50 (gotta love Monoprice)

It also includes a standard composite video, s-video, vga output and L/R RCAs for audio input which I would never use. But here is my dilemma, I plan to use this projector for two things, first is to hook it up to a spare VGA out on one of my desktop’s video cards and use it watch the many movies and TV shows I have saved on my computer on this projector rather than my Sony 30” HD CRT TV, the second is to use it to play video games, PS2 mainly since I do not yet have a next gen system as I do not game much. Now as you prob know the PS2 uses a proprietary connector on one end of its component cables, and the other end is standard RCA’s, which means that Monoprice cable will not work. However I think this one will…

It is a VGA to component female rather than male, which means I could then use any component cable I have laying around to hook in something like a DVD player and use my PS2 cable to plug into it. Do you guys see any reason why that would not work for what I need it to do? My other idea was to buy the monoprice cable and then just use three barrel connectors to adapt it to the PS3 cables, would that work as well?

Thanks for any advice on this, I am a projector newbie and I just wish this thing had an M1 port!

No one knows? I guess I will just order it and see if it works, for $15 I do not have much to loose. But for $4 I could just get the Monoprice cable and use barrel connectors that I already have if that will work, which I do not see why it would not.

Hi Matt,

I don't see why the startech adapter wouldn't work as long as there was nothing different about the pinout. It looks fairly standard though.

I know our Monoprice works fine with the Epsons. I use one on my S1. Same story, yes, I know, it's a presentation projector, yada yada. ;)

Thanks for the reply! I honestly think I am just going to buy both your cable and the startech one just in case the startech doesn't work for whatever reason and the fact that I love supporting Monoprice haha! Seriously though once I found your site I do not think I have ever bought a cable anywhere else unless it was something I needed that instant.

Not to get too off topic my I remember my first order was huge, I got two HDMI cables (the nice ones), 10 banana plugs, 50 Ft of 12 AWG speaker wire, 2 Component cables, two optical cables (with Fancy connector haha), one s vid cable, and two L/R RCA cables all for $107 Shipped. That was in the end of 2007 and prices are even cheaper now! Once I got the cables and saw how quality constructed they were (I was esp impressed by the optical cables) I told all my friend this they were impressed and they always order from Monoprice now too. Whenever I see someone in the store about to pay $100 for an HDMI cable I am like why bother when you can get an amazing one for $4-8 from you guys that is rated for the same "high bandwidth" that some other company claims.

Anyway totally off topic but I just figured you would like to hear that little story and I have to give props to the people are Monoprice, I gotta do an order today, not only for the projector cable but I have a wishlist with about 10 things in it totalling only $40!

I just realized I am a fool, I do not need the Startech cable at all! I have an Onkyo 805 with 3 in 1 out component switching and I have 3 component devices. I currently run just my DVD player and Computer into my AVR via component while the PS2 is hooked directly into the TV (not sure why I did it like that) but I will just switch that into the AVR and then just buy the 50 Foot monoprice VGA to component for only $11! to run back to my projector and they should be all I will need for now. The only other source that I have hooked directly into my TV is an old VCR that I am going to get rid of anyway so this should work perfect. And if I did decide I want to hook up an older composite or S-video source for whatever reason I could always just hook them into my AVR as well and then run a single S-Video cable to my projector. I am pretty exicted about this now as I think I am going to be able to use this as my main display and get rid of my 30" HD Sony CRT which is a a nice TV but it is just too small of a screen and takes up too much space.

The only bummer is no HDMI but I did find this which apparently gives you an HDMI or component out via VGA and seems to have good reviews, I am not really sure how that can work but it could be an option in the future...

Hi Matt,

I have a similar setup and use the Component VGA adapter on my receiver. Works fine for me.

The HDFury is great for devices like Blue-ray players were you get HD out of the HDMI but they won't give you the higher resolution output from the component connections.
