Hello, I just purchased my first home and I'm looking for some opinons and/or recommendations for my 5.1 setup in the den. This is of course until I knock down the wall between the formal living room and den to create a good sized "great" room (in a year or so). Anyways, here are some quick (non proportioned) drawings I did real quick at work using ms paint...lol.

Option 1 (http://static.hometheaterforum.com/imgrepo/thumbs/a/ac/den1.JPG/1000x500px-LL-den1.JPG)

Option 2 (http://static.hometheaterforum.com/imgrepo/6/66/den2.JPG)

Option 3 (http://static.hometheaterforum.com/imgrepo/thumbs/a/ac/den3.JPG/1000x500px-LL-den3.JPG)

I am kind of leaning towards option 2 or 3 but I am worried that the front stage won't be wide enough? I do beleive the sub is best placed in line with the front stage though, correct? I guess that is my main concern, subwoofer location.

I did this out of memory and do not have exact footage at the moment but it should be fairly close.

Basically just looking for some pro's/con's from some of you HT folks.

Not 100% sure if I am going to mount the surrounds on the walls, use stands or even build individual ledges for them. I want to aim them at the main seating position and have them about 1.5 ft above ear level. I even thought about mounting them on the opposing walls aiming directly at the loveseat. But they would have to go above the doorway which is pretty high. Is this recommended?

There are going to be vertical blinds over the sliding door so light shouldn't be an issue. The ceiling is flat and has 3 normal sized doorways. This is NOT a dedicated theater by any means. It's the main living area used for TV, movies, music, gaming ect... Just want the best setup possible.

Thanks for any advice and sorry for all the rambling. :)

I like option 3 with one change. I would mount the surround speaker on the walls to the sides of the loveseat. I guess you are kicking that around too.

edit. I spelled option wrong.

+1

Audition the surrounds placed in option 3 and then reposition as Easy suggests, prior to permanent installation.

Cool, so here is "Option 4" with the surrounds on the opposing walls.

You think the surrounds will be heard when sitting on the couch with this setup? Obviously it isnt the main seating and doesn't matter much, but I would like some surround noise to make it to the couch if possible.

I am liking option 3 & 4 myself as well. Anyone think the my mains are going to be to close to the TV (scew the front stage)? Or will it be ok?

I have always had them 3+ feet away from the TV on each side with a toe in towards the seating position. I have had great results with that setup and like the imaging that setup has produced.

Thanks fellas!

I like it. :) When everything is properly calibrated, I think you'll be fine. I wouldn't worry about the mains being too close.
