View Full Version : Will IR remotes bounce off projector movie screen?

I am re-arraning my HT and was going to put the AV equipment above my seating area. I would then not have a direct line of sight for the remote and would have to rely on the IR signal to bounce or reflect off the (high Power pull down) screen then back to the AV equipment. It would still be unobstructed but would have to travel a total of 20 feet. Has anybody had any experience in doing this? I hope to continue using my Harmony H659 remote.
Thanks

You won't know until you try. My old one didn't and my new one does, but I moved the projector so that might have something to do with it also.

With my Panasonic AE900U, the IR not only bounces off the screen quite well, but off the red velvet curtains in front of the screen.

Like Tom said above, it's going to depend what you're working with both with the remote and the projector. My Pronto for instance, is so powerful I think it would bounce off a black curtain.

Mine already works with my Sony Projector as well. But I was mainly concerned about the HK amp, Dish receiver, and the dvd player. I also have a Pronto too but, I don't like the big bulk and size of it.

Yes it will, but if it will work or not depends on the IR transmitting strength of the remote, and the sensitivity of the IR receiver on the equipment.
