I have been researching about this solution. However, I was not able to fully understand all technical details. How does this work? Do you connect one to your speakers directly?
I am also curious if anyone have any real-life practical experience.
Easyaspie 10-07-09, 12:49 PM I don't get it either. You don't hook it directly to your speakers, I can tell you that. It may not work with AVRs, only pre/pro and amp combos.
I surmised that you need a PC running their software for it to do it's "thing". $6500 though? I think there are less expensive options out there.
That thing is only stereo it appears.
hd_newbie 10-08-09, 06:02 PM Are there? What options are you referring to?

I have been researching about this solution. However, I was not able to fully understand all technical details. How does this work? Do you connect one to your speakers directly? It is a digital crossover and room EQ system all in one. It works at line level and toy would still need power amplifiers to power the drivers.
A single unit is good for a pair of speakers only, and could be driver from an AVR's pre outs to the main channels if so desired, with external amps.
I am also curious if anyone have any real-life practical experience.I've heard them in 3 systems so far; two of them were 3 way and one used a single driver. The latter was just a demo to show how it could even make differences there. I will hear the large system again tomorrow in a Mk2 version and am looking forward to it as it's one of the best systems I've ever heard.
If you have any more questions, ask and I will find out more over the w/e.

I've got a Neptune Audio unit on the way, list $4,000 for balanced and unbalanced 7.1 unit. They have a less expensive 5.3 unit for around $2800 I believe.

Room correction? Their website gave me the impression that they actually focus on speaker correction, which is different than the room correction. I was thinking something like this would complement a room correction system such as Audyssey.
Is my understanding inaccurate?

I read the review, but this is a room correction unit. DEQX is claiming that their products correct the speakers and not the room.

Did you read the product description you linked? The HDP-3 does speaker and room correction.

I did. I am more interested in the speaker correction features though.

penngray 07-03-10, 09:42 AM I have a DEQX HDP-3 coming.....just an old thread bump.
Its going to replace my DCX in doing the active crossover design.

Hey Penn, didn't realize you got one of these. How's your experience with them now almost a year later? :p
AJinFLA 05-12-11, 03:10 PM It's a powerful (albeit expensive) tool for those who don't have a clue about loudspeaker design, to get decent results automatically. Just press some buttons and watch it go. A caveman could do it.
Penn knows what he's doing, so it should just ease his normal design process, although independent measurements are also recommended (which Penn also knows how to do).
It cannot "fix" polar or diffraction, etc. issues, which are inherent to the source. Only "after the fact" issues. So it is not a panacea, though I do see it's allure for certain individuals.
cheers,
AJ
