I just sold my 1080 and I am trying to decide what to try next. I was going to get the 6100 but at this point I am better off waiting for the 8100 since it will be slightly cheaper and perfom slightly better. The 6500 is still available but the 8500 will be out in November and it appears to be a nice step up from the 6500.
As of right now it appears the 8100 will be about $1000.00 cheaper than the 6500. I imagine the 8500 won't have the $400 rebate and free lamp offer that the 6500 currently has. So the 8500 will be significantly more when it is first released. If I get the 6500 I will probably sell the free lamp to recoup some money since I don't use the projector enough to require a second lamp. That should narrow the price difference between the 8100 and 6500 to around $800.00.
What I am trying to decide is if the 6500 is worth $800.00 more than the 8100. I watch mainly movies but I also watch a lot of HD sports. I know either one will be a nice upgrade from my 1080 but is the 6500 really worth that much more money?
