I've finally got the time to sit down the re-program my TX-1000, but it seems the consumer versions of the software located on URCs website hasn't been updated in years. The IR database is ages old, there is no liveupdate feature nor is there a way for me to manually enter pronto standard hex code. I've read reviews of the new software allowing for liveupdates added variables into macros etc, but that is not in the software that URC is providing for download to the consumer. What am i missing here? My dealer (local high end home theater shop) has no idea how to get a hold of the software for me.

If your dealer is truely a high end home theater shop and sells URC remotes, then he is lying to you, probably to get you to have him program it for you, or you just talked to someone who has no clue.

I'll have to call back tomorrow and speak with the manager. However, it seems URC is doing a damn good job of completely alienating their "non installer" customers who purchase their high-end products in hope of being able to implement them like their installer counterparts.

I understand the need for installers for these type of devices but why completely disregard the few of us who have the technological know-how/curiosity.

I know there are quite a few others like me who had no idea that the software for the expensive remotes we purchased was so closely controlled. If I would have known when I made the purchase that I would be denied the latest versions of the software to program my TX-1000, I would have passed on the purchase.

It's not that they are trying to alienate you, it's more likely they are trying to curb the calls to their tech support line by the DIYers out there that get ahold of the higher end software, but don't have access to the training that goes with it.

Shrug, now it sounds like they have the software, they just don't want to give it to me.

I ran into the same problem with RTI and URC. The RTI dealer, and forum goers, basically told me it's not possible for a non-dealer to get the software but people kept saying that dealers can give out the URC software. I tried from numerous local places to buy an MX-5000 and just got the run around. I eventually gave up and went with crestron. It's extremely frustrating and there's plenty of businesses that provide products as is, I don't know why URC can't do that.

You couldn't get the software for URC or RTI from a dealer so you went with Crestron??? That's like saying you couldn't get the engine schamits from Toyota or Cadilac so you went with Bently. That makes no sense.

URC's Terms of Service with it's dealers for the Custom Control lines allows the dealer to give the software to end users. However, that does not grant the end user URC tech support at a custom integrator level for them.

RTI's TOS does not allow for any reason the dealer to give out the software. They aggresivly enforce it, so any dealer wanting to continue selling RTI doesn't give it out.

Crestron's TOS is the same as RTI's in this regard. However, the Crestron dealers are even more rabid about keeping the software out of the end user's hands, partly because they spent thousands going to the training and getting certified on the software.

As far as price goes, URC has a wide range starting around 200 for entry level custom remotes. RTI also has a wide range and goes for about twice that of URC. Crestron, too, has a wide range and goes for about twice that of RTI.
