Hi guy's,
I been reading on avsforum about people letting there receivers to do bitstream instead of pcm.i was wondering how they do that? Because on my setup i don't see thats possible. My receiver is a pioneer elite 92 and the blu ray player is a samsung bdp-1500. Right now,i have the dvd set in audio options to bitstream(audiophile) mode. I also see my receiver still says pcm.
does that sound right? any way how do i let my receiver to do bitstream only and not pcm? It sounds like i have the correct setting but not sure.

Incomplete info. Are you using HDMI and is it a DVD or BD player (you seem to say both)? If bitstreaming BD's HD audio you should see TrueHD, DTS HD in the receiver display unless the BD is LPCM native.

yes that's correct, this player is both,it upconverts s-dvd to 720p and it is a bd player also. I do see dolby true hd when movie is playing on the display of the receiver. Is it normal to see "pcm" and switch to true hd? oh and i am using hdmi for audio :)

A lot of BDs have different audio recorded on them depending on were on the disc you are. Even though the feature film may be DTS HD-MA, the intros and menus may be something entirely different. When I play a BD on my system, I will see the front panel of the AVR cycle through several different audio formats before getting to the feature. And as William said, even when set to bitstream, if the movie is recorded in multichannel LPCM, that is the format that will be passed from the BD player to the AVR.
