I'm looking for a DVD recorder that will burn DVD's with standard stereo (two speaker) audio. I'd also like it to play DVD's recorded with Dolby surround sound and output pre amplified (low level) six channel audio (left front, center, right front, left rear, right rear, and subwolfer).

I've done a little searching but can't make heads or tails of anything.

Help!

The primary function of DVD Recorders is to record DVDs. Most DVD Recorders have only very limited playback functions. DVD Recorder DVD Drives are proprietary in design and very expensive to replace when the laser assembly fails prematurely due to using the DVD recorder to play DVDs.

The primary function of DVD Players is to play DVDs. Many DVD Players have enhanced playback features. DVD Players are inexpensive throw-away products that are easily replaced when laser assemblies or other components fail.

Recorders with discrete 5.1 outputs are even rarer than players with discrete outputs were/are.
Off hand the only one I know of is the Panasonic E10 (the first US Panny) and maybe the Pio 7000 (one of the, if not the first Pio). These first recorders had many features that were quickly dropped to save costs.
The most recent player I saw with discrete 5.1 outputs was one of the first Sony BR players, I haven't seen it on newer BR players.
All recorders have either a optical or coax output for outboard decoders, similar to recent players.
If you see something with 5.1 outputs it seems to be one of the first of it's type or maybe a professional product.

The Polaroid 2001G (2006 model) offered three audio output options. Digital coax, toslink and discrete 5.1 analog outputs.

The DVD optical drive was also easily replaced with many after market DVD burners.

There is a seller on ebay selling them for around $110 which includes shipping and a one year warranty along with a 30 day return guarantee.

Polaroid also offered a 2007 model with digital coax, toslink and discreet 5.1 analog output. This 2007 model is not recommended.
