Hey,

I recently switched back to the 8300HDC, from TWC in the Hudson Valley NY area.

When I first got TWC, in early 2007, they threw me a 8300HDC (which was new) and it was horribly buggy. Mystro was JUST released, and I had come from a cablevision area, running SARA, so i was used to a very fast moving DVR.

The 8300HDC with mystro was horrible.

I quickly got a TIVO HD and a m-stream cable card installed. Worked great until now, 2009.

TWC is starting to switch over to SDV channels, I already cannot get 10 channels with my TIVO.

I have been trying to get a SDV tuning adapter, but TWC is making it a very unpleasent experience. I call and am told they are in stock, but when I go to pick 1 up, I am told they are not in the "system" yet and there is no known ETA when they will be. In the meanwhile I am missing out on NHL Center Ice, and about 10 channels. I figured I would wait it out. While waiting Ive been researching the tuning adapter, and learned for alot of people it makes tivo really unreliable. A lot of TWC customers are experiencing the tuning adapter "rebooting" every 3 days or so, at random. When this happens the TIVO detects a "new tuning adapter" and stops recordings, etc.

In the meantime I picked up a 8300hdc with mystro, so i could get the free 1 month of center ice thats running, and to get my channels back while i wait for the tuning adapter to become available.

I may never go back to tivo....

Perhaps this is what TWC WANTED after all..

The mystro software has gotten much faster, and better since 07. The HDMI handshake and res change issues are resolved, and it seems to have more TV guide info, a decent search feature, and a few other improved things since 2007.

The only thing I notice...is HD looks a bit softer with this box, AND i can see motion blur/block with the DVR much more then I could with the Tivo HD. Anyone else experience that?

I am a bit torn. I love TIVO HD, but it seems you can't fully enjoy it with any cable service. It's anoying. I may just sell it.

Any opinions?

With tivo i cannot get center ice, reguardless of the tuning adapter. The tuning adapter is reported to cause some problems with tivo. The tivo currently cant tune to about 10 channels.

I understand its not TWC job to be concerned about 3rd party hardware before its own house brand, but this stinks.

Anyone using tuning adapters with TWC and have these issues? Any advice? I love tivo but it seems everyday i can do LESS with it with TWC. They add services, features and technology that the tivo cannot support.

As always... contact your local franchise authority.

Or switch to Fios, if that's available to you. For the moment, at least, it's Tivo-friendly.

I have been trying to get a SDV tuning adapter, but TWC is making it a very unpleasent experience. I call and am told they are in stock, but when I go to pick 1 up, I am told they are not in the "system" yet and there is no known ETA when they will be.Have you requested delivery of a SDV adapter? I know in some cases SDV adapters are only available with a truck roll.

If your Time Warner system won't make the SDV adapter available, then I'm not sure what you can do about those channels.

Many people are using SDV adapters without any problems at all. That said, there are interoperability issues with the SDV adapter on some systems. Some cable systems use configurations that aren't fully compatible with the SDV adapter. This can cause pixelization on SDV channels tuned by the adapter; it can also cause the SDV adapter to periodically reset, and when that happens, channels are temporarily lost. TiVo says it is working with cable companies to resolve those issues, but we don't know anything more than that.

Now that TiVo is suing Verizon for patent infringement, we'll see how long that lasts.I think he meant Verizon as an alternative provider. FiOS has no plans to use SDV so there's no need for a SDV adapter to receive all channels. Plus, all of the sports packages are available to the TiVo with FiOS; if TWC doesn't support those packages for customers with TiVo, then they are fairly unique in that regard.

Yeah, they definately do not offer the sports packages like NHL Center Ice, or MLB Extra innings, etc. with a TIVO HD and SDV tuner.

I have checked several times to make sure no one was mistaken, and I am always told I will not be able to get things like center ice with the tuning adapter, thats available to only TWC set top boxes.

My TWC (hudson valley NY) seems to be the worst provider I have ever been with. They seem to be behind everyone else. I had Cablevision all my life until I moved to this new address, and honestly I enjoyed cablevision much more.

My TWC doesnt have all the HBOs (comedy, family etc.) in HD yet, everyone else including my old cablevision company DOES. My TWC doesnt offer USA HD, and I dont think ever will. I dont have HBO on demand HD, my previous cable company, cablevision does. For a long time they would only air VS HD or Golf vs HD on one channel, each 6 mo at a time. Thankfully, that has been fixed, and I now have both. my TWC doesnt have the HD channel for center ice package, which i have really NEVER heard of. Everyone else, Directv, cablevision, fios, etc, all provide that HD feed.

And then all the TIVO trouble...

The list goes on.

TWC of the Hudson Valley is worse then most.
