Hello,

I am trying get some ideas on how many hours you had on your RS20 before the lamp was replaced. The lamp in my RS20 just when dark tonight with only 325 hours on it and most of it was in the normal mode. The worst part is that Jeff just calibrated the unit a few days ago. I was hoping the lamp would last at least 1000 hours. At $1 hour per operating hour, it's kind of expensive.
Hopefully, the replacement lamp will last longer.

It seems that some are changing their bulb every 300 hours, maybe it's par for the course? My RS1 at 600 hours is as bright as my RS20 at 250...

 Are the lamps that bad on the JVCs?

Correction - I may have jumped the gun on lamp failure. I removed the lamp to inspect it and didn't find any discoloration or anything unusual about it so I plugged it back it and it started working again. It did take longer than usual for it to light up.

When the problem occurred, the orange LED was blinking once. When Jeff calibrated the unit, he thought the unit was pretty dim. At this point, I am not sure if the problem is the lamp or the unit.

I'll run it a bit more to see if the problem occurs again.

I had an HD1 with 1300 hours on the bulb and still going strong. Sure it was dimmer than brand new, but well within acceptable usage.

The newest 550/950/990 are quoted at 3000 hours on the same bulb as the RS20 in normal mode.

So it seems very strange if they are failing at 300 hours!!

Some have recommended running the bulb in high power mode for an hour or so can sometimes rejuvinate a bulb that has over-dimmed or started flickering.

The important thing is not to let the lamp actually blow so if it becomes pervasive and really obviously and seriously wrong...don't keep running it.

I just checked the lamp timer on my RS20 last night - 1290 hours. Still bright enough in "normal" (low power) mode on my 100" diag. first-gen Firehawk, but certainly dimmer than when brand new. I have opened the iris a few clicks to compensate too.

I'm at 230 hours on my HD350 (so really an RS10 rather than the RS20 in the OP, but the same lamp anyway). I'm still mostly using iris at 15 (one up from minimum) and find it bright enough. I'll be disapointed if it only lasts another 100 hours as I'm considering getting it ISF'd soon now that it's run in.

After calibrating the RS20, Jeff was able to get only 10 ft-L at high power with aperture at max. I have a 100" Firehawk screen with the projector mounted about 14 feet away. I was expecting to get 15 ft_L or so.

In any case, I used the projector for about an hour the other day and it didn't shutoff again. So I am not sure what is wrong with it. I spoke to JVC and they suggested I send it back for a check which I may do next week. They did promise a 72 hour turn around.
