is this a valid arrangement? The yellow is the tv, the reds are the couches and blacks are the speaker/woofer placements. the area on the left side of the tv is open and leads into the dinning room.

I might consider just having 5.1, since there is really no space(12 x 12 room), but I dont want to waste the 2 speakers I have.

Can anyone suggest a good arrangement for 5.1 with the same layout?

What is the purpose of the two speakers behind each couch?

If the couches are right against the walls or less than 3 ft away, then forget the rear surrounds and just do 5.1

In ahowrooms I've been in that had back surrounds right next to the seating was too distracting.

ok if I do 5.1 where should the 2 rear speakers be for maximum effect? Its only for movie and tv watching.
