Back in '07 I decided it was time to take a risk on front projection. I had done all the measuring and considering and would have been doing things over again if I had waited. I used this site as my main resource for information in all of my considerations and calculations. I do have to admit that I was in fear of getting an unsatisfying result.

Back then, the Sony VW60 was the hot ticket, and so I sent AVS my check and got one. I still remember the first time I turned it on. It was a high definition nature show about New Zealand I was getting off of satellite. All I could say was "WOW!" . Even with ambient light and without the darker walls that optimize video, it was fantastic.

I am one of those guys with an 8 1/2 foot dish on my roof that scans east to west, horizon to horizon. I hunt for the unencrypted feeds for various events and shows.

Just yesterday, I found some NFL game feeds in High Definition. They were 1080p ! Just fabulous! I can't imagine a better picture, although I apparently can get it brighter still with a white or silver screen. But I don't know why I need to.

So thank you AVS. Thank you for the projector, for great information and for generous members.

Thank you again.

LC thanks for the kind words, much appreciated.

I had one of these dishes for years and like you enjoyed the very best PQ and free feeds. Is there anything worth while still up their unencrypted and how is the PQ. Do you see any value owning a large dish in today's market..sorry for all the off topic questions but you have re peaked an old passion of mine.

You are welcome Alan.

By the way, some of your posts here were very helpful in planning and choosing for my theater room.

To answer your question, a lot of programming has been on one satellite for awhile, and a lot is here this week, gone next. I particularly like 125 west on both the C and Ku side (big dish, little dish)- four hd stations there. Right now I get about a dozen unencrypted HD stations from different satellites on the arc. . Twice before I was getting twenty. The trend is definitely toward more HD.

Is it worthwhile? Well, if you are the kind of viewer that needs to go home, have a beer and consistently watch what you are expecting to watch that evening, maybe not, since it is a changing environment. I am assuming the program providers look for the best deals week to week on transmission and that causes regular changes in satellites and/or transponders. But if you are like me and prefer finding different things to watch, it's pretty cool.

For me, football season makes it all worthwhile. When I find a game in High Def, and it's a good game, it's grand.

I second the motion. I too am a still satisfied Black Pearl owner via AVS. I look back on my purchase a couple of years ago with a good feeling for the price and service I receieved. And I had one situation that needed taking care of and Jason couldn't have dealt with it any better.

Cheers for the home team. :D

I too must give props to AV Science. I've not had the greatest luck with projectors, batting 500 at the moment.

But 100% of the ones that have not been problems I got from AVS. A few years ago it was an InFocus IN76, and just a couple months ago it's now a Planar 8150. Both have been great, the Planar is great.

And no offense to Alan or anyone else at AVS, but I hope I don't have to deal with them for quite a while :D
