I play Street Fighter IV on my PS3, and I want to record my fights as I play them. I need to know the steps to take for the following to happen:

My ps3 HDMI-out to be split into two signals (without compromising quality)
One link should go to my HDTV so that I can actually play
The other link should go to a device with HDMI input and storage (preferably my PC)

Can someone advise on the process and the devices/cables to buy; if this advice comes with recommended brands that would be just nice..

And of course, If there is a thread that discusses this, please redirect me to and we shall close this thread.

Thank you

How about something from Blackmagic? Here's an HDMI Capture Card (http://www.blackmagic-design.com/products/intensity/)

As long as it's not copy protected content it sounds like it might work.

"...Copy Protection: For legal reasons, capture devices from Blackmagic Design are designed not to capture, convert or transmit video or audio from copy-protected sources, e.g. video devices using HDCP..."

Yeah, I was wondering about that. I'm not sure if they would copy-protect the output of the PS3 during gameplay.

If they do, then there's always the Hauppauge HD-PVR using component connections.

Strictly speaking, the HDMI license requires them to, so I'm guessing it's a safe bet that it is. So yes, the Hauppauge box is probably the only option.

I will actually try to check with playstation if they actually do copy protect game output.. but now, back to the other part of my inquiry; how to split the signal into two. I heard HDMI splitters that aren't power supplied don't do the trick, so can someone direct me to a powered-device that does that..

I have a couple of connectgear HDMi 1x2 splitters, and also a 1x4 splitter(not sure of the manufacturer). But the Connectgear ones are only HDMI 1.1and the 1x4 splitter is HDMI 1.2.

Thanks man.. connectgear is exactly what I am looking for. Do you know a physical store that sells them in San Francisco?

Monoprice also sells the HDMI splitters. They are also in bay area. Might save you some money.
