well, I came across a slight issue this evening. I think I know the answer, but I still thought to ask before I write things off.

I was putting together my equipment rack and getting things into position when I got to the VCR. I figured even though it is obsolete, it might still be good to have to play childrens videos. Well, to my projector I have HDMI and component, but no RCA (the yellow one). I figure I can run one if needed, but rather not.

My question is, is there any way to get my receiver to pass RCA (yellow one) or S-video via component? I am thinking no, but still thought to throw this out there.

Of those that have a VCR, is it even worth it anymore, or am I just wasting my time and money to even try and get the thing connected in my rack. Seeming as even all the childrens videos are moving to dvd nowadays

Many receivers, but not all will transcode composite to component or HDMI. What receiver do you have?

You are fine. I think.

I dont know. Maybe I am missing something, but I was testing by hooking up the vcr and got no response via the component output. Maybe I am missing something. I will have to play with it some more before completely bailing on the VCR.

Scanning the official thread, they reference page 28 & 29. I didn't hunt down the manual, but it did say things would upconvert. Try using HDMI.

yes. I just got it...
Before checking back I hunted down the manual and learned that it is possible. When I tested with my SAT box, I left the component wires connected and was using the component output on the receiver. After connecting only the composite and using HDMI to display, things displayed, albeit, it was 4:3 and looked horrible. I cant believe that used to be the norm.

OK, and finally, while talking about my receiver. With one issue solved and behind me, I assume because I dont have the sr875 which allows me to select the output format, such as auto, 1080p, 720p, etc. With the 805, the video is smiply passed through in the same format which it had inputed. When I look at the signal information on the projector, I see 1080p when in blu ray and 720p when on my SAT box, so I believe I have answered my own question here. I think I am set and can rest easy once more. Everything is functioning as it should be. (fist pump)
