I have done some searches and have not seen anything that naswered my question so here it goes.

I have a the equipment in the title and am trying to figure out how to get the TrueHD working. Right now I have the PS3 on Linear PCM but am not getting any sound out of my rear back speakers. The indicator on the receiver is lighing up, but does not have a box around it like the rest of the speaker indicators.

What is the best way to get the Dolby True HD, should I let the PS 3 do it or set it to bitstream and let my receiver do it. Any help would be appreciated, I have been waiting to finally get to use this function and am getting frustrated that i can't figure out.

Also, can someone let me know if everything played on here will be in 7.1 or just newer media. Still new to all of the HD products and trying to get a general understanding.

Only select games and blu-rays output in 7.1. You're best bet would be to try one that does, and if all is working well, then you should be all set (Uncharted 1 & 2 are 7.1). If not, check to make sure you have all the appropriate output options selected on your PS3.

You're fine either way with the PS3 decoding or having the receiver decode. If there's a difference, it's miniscule.

Thanks for the answers, I will try this when I get home today. If anyone else may have a suggestion it would be appreciated. Like I said, the indicators for the rear back speakers come on they just do not have a box around them and am getting no sound out of them. Not sure why this is.

One more thing that just came to mind, do you need a cat 2 HDMI for this. Currently I do not have this, but have some coming in the mail from monoprice.

most true hd content is 5.1 still! there is no sound coming from the rear speakers because there is no sound there! you need to have your ps3 on linear pcm and your receiver will show something like multi channel in to which you should be able to apply a dolby or dts plx processing and transfer sound to the rears. Unless your source material is 7.1 you wont get sound out of the rear speakers with out some sort of matrixing/processing! good luck

So I read through all of my manuals last night and none of them talk in depth about True HD. I have tried using the PCM and Bit-streaming for 7.1 and still get no sound from my rear back speakers. I tried using Uncharted as I was told this utilizes 7.1 but nothing. Could someone let know if you need to maybe activate this option on my receiver or if there is a definate peice of media I can use that supports 7.1. Any help is appreciated, I am really stoked to hear 7.1 and am getting frustrated.

Confused, you can tell the receiver that there are no speakers? I skimmed through the manual last night and saw nothing on this. If it is not confusing or time consuming would you care to elaborate?

Doesn't the DG820 have an auto-calibration as well? You plug the microphone in that came with it, put it in the listening position, and then it should automatically setup your system for 7.1 as long as all the speakers have been connected properly.

I owned one for a couple days, and I recall it came with a setup mic. If you haven't done that, I'd strongly suggest doing so.

Also, if you're sending a PCM signal to the AVR, your AVR should have a multichannel setting.

Smigro, I have the 820 but no PS3. You can also bitstream true hd, dts ma, etc and apply the prologic ii or iix processing if you like. There are also manual sound levels you might need to adjust some if you are still having problems hearing from the back surround speakers. I love my 820 works great with the s350 while bitstreaming the audio.

There is definitely an option on your receiver where you tell it whether or not you have surround back speakers hooked up. I have the DG720 model.

I think it is under the "SYSTEM" submenu. Keep scrolling until you see something called "SB SPK". There you can set it to NO , SINGLE , or DUAL.

You should check that setting to see if it is set to DUAL.
