Would this work?
Buy a used HD cable box from Ebay that has a Cablecard insert
Get a Cablecard from Comcast
You can now watch HDTV etc etc without wasting money on a rented box from Comcast?
Has anyone tried this?
thanks
No, unless the box is a Tivo or Moxi box. Motorola, Pace, and Cisco do not sell box to the public in the United States so if you see a box listed on E-Bay it is almost certainly stolen.

No it will not work. Yes several people have tried. The box is most likely stolen property.

Comcast is evil. They mailed me their new prices today. 16$ for a hdbox rental

Anyone that doesn't want to rent a box can buy a TiVo HD or Moxi, both of which use CableCARD, and this has been the case for quite some time.....

It doesn't matter what the box rental fee is, all that matters is the net cost vs. other alternatives.
What are your other options?

Comcast is just a company trying to make a profit. You do not have to rent the box. You have other choices. The people who steal cable boxes are evil.

Are there any small (26") LCD TVs with CableCard slots? I am buying a TV for my kitchen and really don't have room for a box (from the cable company or Tivo).

No. The best you can hope for is that your cable service has analog and clear QAM channels that satisfy your kitchen viewing needs.

A quick Google search turned up this discontinued Sharp model: http://www.electronicexpress.com/product?prod_id=8849
I don't know anything about the Sharp in the link (or that vendor), but I have a late 2004 model Sharp 26" that will accept a CableCard although I've never actually had a CableCard installed in it.
