Hi,

Timer tells me that I've been using this projector for 198 hrs by now. Purchased it en if July this year.

Last Friday, while watching a bluray movie, we noticed with my wife that brightness was going up and down... Even on an instant that there was almost no change in average brightness on the screen.

I got same results with HDTV (Cable). I connected my bluray player directly to the projector; same result.

So I called Panasonic yesterday. Rep told me that a lot of people having the same problem, and way to fix it is to keep the Iris off.

That sounds totally unacceptable to me... First of all, we didn't noticed this change in brightness before (194 hrs of watching bluray and HDTV) while I've always kept Iris on. Secondly, why implement a function in a product and then tell users not to use it...

Also, black levels will get affected from this...

Does this make any sense to any of you?? Any recommendations from more experienced users than I am?

Thanks in advance,

Akin

By all means try running with the iris off, just so you can go back to them to say it doesn't make any difference. ;) It is much more likely to be the lamp as many other owners have reported this issue. Thankfully there is a cure: Put the PJ in High lamp (or normal whatever it's called) rather than 'Eco' and run the PJ for the next 10 hours or so of use. It is to do with an unstable arc in the lamp and running it with slightly more power can help to stabilise it.

I never found I could see the difference between the two lamp modes anyway, so it was only the idea that using Eco would get more hours from the lamp. In practice I sold each of my AExxxx PJs before they hit 200 hours.

Thanks for the quick response.

I never used the projector in Eco mode... It was always on "Hi" mode...

I'll keep in on tonight till morning to see if it will help with anything...

But I'm still pissed at the Panasonic rep that told me to turn the iris off... What a shame on them...

By the way, why did you sell them so quick?

Regards,

Akin

In that case then maybe trying it in Eco mode might do it or run it a bit longer in Normal to see if it settles.

Upgraditus....AE1000 to AE2000 to AE3000 to HD350; I'm happy now as my room limits any further need to change the PJ.:D
