Here's a jpeg of what I have so far. Does the layout schematic look even reasonable?
Want to add sound for the big screen, but probably just an amp and speakers, or do I really need a receiver etc etc?
Thanks much.

Layout looks fine.
Whether or not you need a receiver depends on a lot of things. Do you want a 5.1 or 7.1 speaker layout? Do you want surround sound? You can get decent sound from a soundbar, or other LCR (left center right) type solution. You will have to determine what your goal is though.

Thanks for the reply.
The room is 16x20, screen centered on long wall, seating opposite.
Would like surround sound - 5.1.
Movies (BluRay, Netflix streaming) and network HD sports are main uses.
So do I just need a 5.1 amp and speakers?

Heh, well yes, basically. But I would hesitate to say you "just need" anything. Afterall, you are posting on this forum. Whatever you think you "just need", take it one or 2 more steps, just because. At least be thinking 2 steps down the road, just in case.
On the surface, you need atleast a 5.1 receiver and speakers and sub(s). You need to be able to connect all your equipment as well (cables). You'll need speaker wire and a way to hide it as well. And then a remote to control it all.
You see how it can get out of hand quickly? This is assuming you are happy with 5.1 and don't want 7.2 as soon as it's hooked up.
Just ordered a Pioneer VSX 1019 AHK, Energy Take Classic speakers, and will use a JBL 10" subwoofer. Also ordered an APC AV H15BLK power filter - decided to get this after toting up what I spent on all the other stuff so far.
Wire for rear speakers was put in years ago when I finished the room. Can the rear speakers be ceiling mounted, or should they be lower?
Thanks for the feedback - I'm kind of feeling my way forward in putting this system together.
