I recently got my wife a DSL connection at our home from AT+T, their Pro HSI which is supposed to be a 3.0 mbps service. At work we have the HSI Express service which is billed as 1.5 Mbps. Yesterday we tested both via the speedtest at vudu.com. Both measured very similarly at 2.3-2.6 download and 249-419 upload. Two questions:

1. Am I being shortchanged at home or may I have another issue? (use regular phoneline to the AT+T 2Wire wireless gateway.

2. Do I have enough bandwidth at home to support successful HD movie streaming or downloading from services like Netflix etc. or do I need to beef up to the AT+T 6.0 service (if they offer at my location.)

Much appreciate any wisdom on this!

It's probably an "up to 3.0MBps" service, so you're probably not being short changed.

I think you'll need a faster speed for HD streaming.

you might want to look into using FTTH (Fiber To The Home) services such as Verizon FIOS. (If its available in your area)

Instead of still using Coaxial cable to provide you with broadband service, you are using Fiber Optic cable to your house and you'll also be able to get MUCH higher upload and download speeds for about the same price as a coaxial or DSL service.

I have their 25down/15up package and i couldnt be happier.

I can stream HD movies from netflix no problem, and at the same time, my roomate can host an 18 player match of COD4 with no lag issues while my gf is watching her netflix movies in the other room and while some other friends are browsing the internet with their iphones.

I used to have Time Warner with their 7down/1up and it just sucked.... and i paid $45/month...

All the upgrade work is done outside the house from the box and to the junction box that is on the side/rear of the house. everything else is the same. The only equipment put in your home is their modem. Thats it.

Sounds excellent. My stepfather has the FIOS TV service and it look excellent....sadly this is not yet available in my area and yesterday AT+T told me they did not think their 6.0 service would work for me as I am too far away from their nearest pod or whatever they call that. They stated that a family down the street, closer to the source than I am, is having some stability issues. Was surpirsed at their candor, so anyway I am stuck for the moment unless I take on more Comcast product (I would hate to do so, as I think their product stinks fopr lots of $ and do not want to subsidize them further)
