Working on my plans....
Screen wall with non-AT screen, but GOM all around to place speakers behind.
The screen wall will be just out from the basement steps, with a stage built with sand to sit the speakers on.
Will the stair cavity cause any odd sound issues?
I'd like to extend the stage under the stair cavity and place my sub under there. It is currently just closed in wood steps, I was going to build a room in a room inside the cavity so I don't resonate anything through the steps into the house. (the rest of the theater area will just be a decoupled ceiling using RSIC clips,DD GG)
Thanks,
Noel

Stairs and overhead support beams are to be avoided at all cost if sound isolation is a goal. This isn't always possible / practical, I realize.
The framing of the stairwell wall is rigidly connected to the joists, and if you have a two story house, the same stairwell framing is attached to the second floor as well.
Advised to put a double wall between the theater and the stairwell if possible.

Ted...
This is a basement stairs...
I was planning on building the stage, decoupled from the walls. And then build an enclosure to come up into the stair cavity, connected to the stairs and completely decoupled from the rest of the house framing. and have it extend to the the front of the screen wall. And then have the basement ceiling butt up to that.
The soundproofing of this area is pretty easy, since I don't care how much height I loose.
The question is, If I have a sub woofer, sitting inside this cubby will it make any difference in the sound of the room?

Unless you soundproof the whole cavity under the stairs, the vibrations (and a lot of them) will transmit all over the place.

Exactly. It really is advised to just avoid the stairwell altogether.

So best would be to just fill it with insulation, frame it in and just chock it up to lost space? It's better to loose the space than have to orient the theater differently.

Just build your double walls in front of it. No need to fill it or deal with it in that case. This assumes you have room to put a double wall in front of it and can drywall the stairwell side.
These are ideal considerations. The problem is we have to factor in the practical side of things.:)
