Hey everyone,

Being a big sports fan, I thought about the possibility of adding a sports ticker to the basement, likely in the bar area.

I have only found one site tickerwarehouse.com that sells them and I didnt see any pricing (have to call).

Does anyone know of any other sites? Or, if not, know of someone who bought one and knows of the price of one of these? I realize they are different makes and models so a roundabout general price is just fine.

Thanks guys.

Check the Diy Network website for a show called Man Caves. (not sure if you have seen it or not) THey installed some service on a few shows that involved a ticker and other stat screens. It was somethign you install on a computer I think but it scaled up nicely to a 32 inch TV they put it on.

I will check it out when I get a chance (DIYNetwork is blocked here at work .. grrr).

I certainly dont mind a DIY solution but I defintely dont want it on a 32" tv. Thats a little much. I was just thinking about one of those scrolling ones really but perhaps on a 17" monitor, it wouldnt be so bad.

Here's one of the "stat's" channels mentioned on Man Caves. I'd be interested in what you find out. I've wanted to do the same thing. However, I'm a Comcast customer and I've noticed on Sundays they have the NFL Redzone channel as well as a Stat's channel. So I'll probably just dedicate two tvs in the gameroom to these. The worst part is I'm a huge college football fan, and stats and red zone coverage is sorely lacking.

Yep, that is what I was thinking. I was just oming to post Sportspage TVs website. I looked and it seems more tilted to commercial use, but it looks like you can use it at home also. You have to call them for pricing though.

My wife and I are also big College Football fans and we have 3 TVs going on Saturdays. I have been using my iPhone or a laptop to keep up with other scores, but it is a pain.

I think this is what you need. Also has the ticker you were looking for.

Its ironic that I came across Your thread here.
A buddy and I chat all the time about different inventions we could come up with and this is the one I have been bringing up for over 3 years now.
A simple sports ticker that plugs into the wall like a clock and simply displays the sports news/scores.
Obviously, the ticker on the bottom of espn does this but this would be more of a conversational office/basement/bar type of thing.
I for see stacks of these at at various stores near the checkout isle selling for 75-100$ and being the #1 selling Christmas item.
In our brief research we found most companies selling this do cater to mostly commercial use and a subscription fee.
I think they are missing the boat here with residential users. If it could be a cheaper plug and play, someone would make tens of millions!
I realize I have added Nothing to your thread but let us know if you come up with anything.

Sorry to replay to an older post.

Has anyone found a solution to this? I can't believe that anyone would pay for a subscription to a service when I am sure there are freely available RSS feeds. The way I see it working is a cheap LED scrolling sign that uses a computer to tell it what to display. That computer would be getting the info from any old RSS feed.

For some reason though I can't find anything along these lines. Has anyone else?

i looked last year for ones they have at the bars. the tickers themselves aren't too expensive BUT the subscription kills it for me. it's like $30/mo or so. so as one of the other posters was saying there just isn't a good option for residential users.

you'd think if you were fairly good with computers that you could just get a basic LED and the RSS feed it like you're saying that should work. maybe there are options out there but i haven't looked that hard, plus you'd have to have a computer on the whole time you wanted the ticker, maybe not the most ideal but it would be 'free'

I figured most people that would be looking into having a ticker, would already have a computer in the room. I am pretty sure the ticker itself wouldn't take too much cycles from the CPU, and I am also sure, it would only be on when there were occupants in the room.

Again, I think it is totally possible, it's just a matter of us finding someone who has already done it, or get someone with more smarts than me to get it working.

Even if you didn't want a computer to run it, I am sure someone could get one of those arduino boards to make the whole thing work.
