I have the setup shown in the pic below. PC1 is the media storage and PC2 streams data from PC1. The connection to from PC2 to PC1 intermittently and frequently drops out, but if I remove Router 2 and connect PC2 directly to Router 1 then I have no problems. Should I be using a switch in place of Router 2?

Router 1 is in an enclosure and I use Router 2 for wireless.

Yes.

If you want wireless, use and access point. See of you can put router 2 into access point mode with no routing.
