View Full Version : Plasma "S" versus "V" Series?

I'm eyeballing Plasma's again for Christmas and found that Sears has the 42'' S1 on sale for $699.

I'm curious what difference the low-end S series panels have compared to the much more expensive G/V/ETC... series.

The only thing I notice is the "Sub Pixel Control (wtf is this?)" and the 24p Cinema Playback (Which I assume affects BluRay media?)

Any light that could be shed on this would be greatly appreciated.

Where on this website do you see anything indicating a description of all the useless buzzword "Features" listed for the panels like "Sub Pixel Control?"

Not like I'm asking the answer to chinese calculus...it was one of those "Do you know the answer? Sweet you're awesome"

not

"Do you not know the answer and refer someone to google to boost your POST score? Then you're not awesome"

Sub-Pixel Controller
Precise control of objects and boundaries between objects is managed by the Sub-Pixel Controller which eliminates jagged or blurred diagonal lines and produces smoother edges. Unlike conventional systems in which the three RGB colors are processed together, this advanced system processes each color separately for crisper, more natural-looking images. This processing can produce a 30% improvement in perceived horizontal resolution compared with conventional systems.

The G10 and V10 also add a THX mode not in the S1 (for more accurate colors).

I was torn between the 58V10 and the 58S1 but just ordered the 58S1 from BB. So many factors to consider but in the end the sale price of the 58S1 and the fact that I am coming from a TH-50PH9UK 720p set so I expect the 58S1 to have much better PQ than the 509UK. Not on the level of the 58V10 but I am expecting it to be close enough;).

I have bought so many AV components over the years and overspent for features I have never used. So my thoughts are even though the 58S1 does not have 24p 96Hz playback I will enjoy it very much. I looked at the 50S1 today at BB with a Bluray demo running and thought the PQ was excellent:).
