This past week, Purchased a Sammy b750 52 lcd to put in my study, as we have a Sammy A750 52 in our living room and really, really like it.

First night, everthing was great until it put on my ps3 Uncharted game to play. Something wasnt right and took me 2 hours to figure out : new Samsungs LCD's now have undocumented feature called autodimming.

For those that have seen it, no further explanation is probably needed. For those that havent, the panel automatically adjusts the screen contrast not to ambient lighting, but to the scene presented onscreen. Further, it cannot be defeated via menu or service menu (CE dimming did not solve it). This is not good. This thing went through more flucuations than an Obama health care bill.

It was a real dealbreaker for me, didnt like it at all, and my A750 Sammy LCD from previous year does not exhibit these malnormalities. Add in even higher input lag for gaming and my thought process led toward plasma when I realized most new Sammy/Sony LCD's use autodimming for 2009. I love the look of LCD and the move toward plasma concerned me because of pic quality (like I said, I like the brightness/sharpness LCD's bring)

After some quick research to exchange this autodimming B750, I chose the Panasonic 54S1 Plasma from Fry's (new great price). First thing i noticed was tight, responsive input controls on ps3 and 360. That is a great thing. Next I noticed the Plasma did not quite have the clarity and brightness, overall pop if you will, that the B750 had. That is something I will have to adjust to. The pic quality of plasma is still very good, and maybe more natural. Just miss that lcd pop and in reading it is suggested it is something that I will get used to it and like it more than the lcd pic.

So looks like i'm keeping the Panny Plasma. I would not have believed this a year ago when I was singing the praises of the Sammy A750 we have. Between the viral autodimming and input lag, I feel like I was left with no choice and made the best choice for my needs.

Anyone with similar experience?

No, but if you want more pop put it on custom picture and crank the contrast up. If that isn't bright enough I don't know what is.
