View Full Version : Critter Crunch!
I thought it was odd that there was no thread about this game. It's a lot of fun and really funny. The puzzle mechanics are solid and the hand-drawn 1080p graphics are beautiful! A nice mix of modes and co-op and competitive online play... it's a really great game for only $7. Did no one else pick this up?
crippldogg 10-19-09, 07:30 AM yep, pretty fun and the puzzles get challenging
so's your face 10-19-09, 10:12 AM i think i'll pick this up next time i'm on and you're not...
;)
Cysquatch 10-19-09, 11:11 AM I heard the online is good. Wondering if I should pick this up.
bdwright77 10-19-09, 11:18 AM I have plans to, and I will most likely in a week or so. I've just been hard pressed to break from Demon's Souls to play anything.

I'm playing Uncharted 2 MP and still need to play Demon's Souls. And gamefly just shipped Brutal Legend and Afrika. I'm kinda backed up. I'll eventually grab this.
TornadoTJ 10-19-09, 11:27 AM It is fun, but that one challenge where you have to clear the board without any food chains is kicking my butt!

This one took me a long ass time.... The other one that kicked my ass was the one that you had to generate 4 combos (not food chains) in 40 seconds.
I complete puzzle mode finally, having to resort to looking up how to solve puzzle 79... Argh, the tactic you had to use on ONLY that puzzle kinda pissed me off. Oh well.
I don't enjoy the online, so I probably won't ever get the 100% mark (that whole level 5 thing confounds me).
It's great to play with beer and friends though, here's a tip: Drink every time someone swears, drink every time someone wins. *BAM* instant recipe for fun.
confidenceman 10-19-09, 02:12 PM Fun game, and definitely worth $7. Looks great, and has some great puzzle game tactics. It's no puzzle classic, but it's a fine time waster.

I'm stuck on puzzle 79 as well. The online isn't too bad. To get to level 5, all you have to do is win 12 matches. I did that and haven't been online since
Zookster 10-19-09, 03:19 PM Does this have two-player offline? I could only see myself getting this if I can play with my girlfriend, who liked the trailer I showed her.

Puzzle 79 Spoiler Hint (Not a full solution)
you have to eat/spit WHILE a chain reaction is happening on this one

Yes, co-op survival and competitive

indeed it does!
TornadoTJ 10-19-09, 04:02 PM Two Player Offline review:
OK, so this was a selling point to me and my daughter. There are two modes, as mentioned above, competitive and co-op. We found neither of them to be much fun, unfortunately. We got bored of them really quick.

Thanks for the tip. I'll look for something else, then.
TornadoTJ 10-19-09, 04:38 PM Someone else might not agree, but it wasn't good for us. I love it in 1 player mode though!
confidenceman 10-19-09, 09:06 PM FWIW, my wife will only play puzzle games, and she didn't take to this game at all. I think it's because it's built around the adventure mode rather than just a regular old play mode like most other block puzzle games (tetris, lumines, hexic, puzzle fighter, etc).
Critter Crunch is half off on PSN and Amazon. Go get it, you heartless joy-hating bastards.
ballen420 01-22-10, 09:06 AM What's Critter Crunch? Block puzzle type game?
ppshooky 01-22-10, 11:15 AM What's Critter Crunch? Block puzzle type game?
More or less.
The cute monster moves various type of critters and by eating them and spitting them out. They consume each other and explode, dropping jewels.
When you get enough jewels, the monster's babies show up, to which the monster barfs up everything they've collected in the form of a liquid rainbow.
ballen420 01-22-10, 11:25 AM Sounds like I need some acid for this game.

ballen420 01-22-10, 11:56 AM Thank you sir. I'll check those out when I get home - can't really go wrong with $3.50.
Zookster 01-22-10, 12:53 PM Thanks for the tip! Most reviewers have said this game is an incredible bargain at $7. My girlfriend really likes the demo and plays it everytime we fire up the PS3; now I have no excuse not to buy the full version, which I just did.
BTW, also half-price are Braid, Burn Zombie Burn, UNO, and Tank Battles.

Sold!
ludivigo 01-22-10, 02:21 PM Everyone needs to buy this game just to show publishers that $6.99 is a viable price point! At $3.50 it's a no brainer.
pcweber111 01-22-10, 05:01 PM Just bought it. What an amazing deal.
moothemagiccow 01-22-10, 05:40 PM I played the demo. It looks great but the vomiting rainbow kind of grossed me out.
pcweber111 01-22-10, 06:58 PM Kinda like Katamari Damaci.
How about Noby Noby Boy where you poop stuff out of your arse?
Both this game and Tank Battles are great buys for $3.50
Vortex3D 01-23-10, 03:51 AM There are quite a few online players playing Critter Crunch.
