View Full Version : LG 50PS70 or Sammy PN50b530 or similar
bugs_bunny01 10-19-09, 12:52 AM hi there evrybody.
i am fairly new to this website, but i have been reading alot to get used to this :).
i am from canada, and i am looking to buy a 50" plasma 1080p screen below $1500.
SInce the LG 50ps70 is on special price($1399) till the end of the month, i am tempted to go with that one, although the sammy pn50b530 was my original choice.
i've read and heard about a few issues on both brands, but i also know alot of good stroys about them too.
so which of the two would you guys picj, or if there is other options below the price mark i have set, i would be very happy to look into it.
i will be mostly watching HD shows and movies, and playing xbox, and occasionaly some pc use via hdmi.
thanks in advance.

djm3801 10-19-09, 07:32 PM I cannot advise but I hate when I post something and the brain trust disappears. Of course, I am not part of the braintrust.
I was in this exact situation last week myself with these very models. I consider myself a Samsung guy but I ended up going with the LG because of the THX and USB options. Everything else is virtually the same. I've had the TV hooked up for 2 days now and am still impressed.
bugs_bunny01 11-02-09, 09:05 AM i bought the lg as well. impressed as well:)
Picked one up on Halloween. It's BOOtiful!!
bugs_bunny01 11-03-09, 06:38 PM image quality from cable source and the x360 is outstanding, but whenever i connect m laptop through hdmi the color seems too greenish. i tried transformers 2 in bluray quality and on the laptop the colors are fine, at the same time on the tv, the colors look too strong, like gryes being a little green, or dirt color being almost orange....tried to play with the laptop settings but no luck, and the only mode on the tv that makes a little better is the thx cinema mode.. any ideia how to reduce the amount of color? megan fox looks almost brown....
dreameer111 11-28-09, 07:15 PM Sorry to bump an old thread, but I'm looking to get either one to replace my Panasonic 42" G15. Does anyone else have issues with the LG and color when using HDMI?
a silly old man 11-29-09, 08:55 AM i did an in home comparison of a samsung pn50b540 from best buy and the lg50ps70 from future shop took back the lg everyone here thought the sammy was way better.:)

Better in what way?
I don't know I'm still trying to decide, the samsung looked pretty good, but it has minimal connections at the back and I could notice the buzzing sound even with the noise in futureshop. The lg also looked really good, but it has thx, better back connections, and it doesn't buzz
I'm kinda leaning towards the lg now, but I'll have to take a look again.
bugs_bunny01 11-29-09, 11:30 PM go for it. i dont regret , not one bit. i choose the lg, and was a pretty good deal. 1800 for the tv with a 4year warranty, and an hd kit. and no admin fee :D.
i am constantly using 3 hdmi inputs, and whenever i get another hdmi cable, all four will be used up.(dvd-soon a br player, x360, cable, and my laptop to play blu-ray movies while i dont get the br player D:). i have had the tv for just over a month, and after some setting adjustment, the tv is perfect, hard to beat for the priced asked. regarding IR, i was playing forza 3 for about 3 hours yesterday, and i saw no IR.although in the very first few hours of use, i would see IR with any thing that was static for more than a few minutes, but it would go away. now, i barely get IR, unless i watch CP24(damn boxes).
HD channels look amazing, blu-ray movies are outstanding as well. and the optical output for sound makes an awesome job to delivering the sound to my surround system. i have tried a couple of tv shows and movies on the usb port and all went well too.
pricewise, if panasonic g115 waS SIMILARLY PRICED i would buy it without thinking twice. but at the regular price they are. the lg becomes a better deal.
