Anyone here has experience with the Sony HIL-C2EX? It's said to be a great player, also with a "pure signal" as the HLD X0.
Can someone share experience with this player?
Because the prices now are so cheap on these... and it's a beautiful unit.

I read somewhere that some components in the sony unit were superior than the ones in X0. I read that the spindle motor was twice the size of X0's. I guess X0 is in overal a better LD player but C2 can come very close with using its BNC out to a good outboard video processor. I cant find the link now but someone in a different forum was heavly modding his broadcast level video processor to match with a C2(also modded) and said that X0 could be used but not very much needed(C2 is cheaper) since he was going to feed his VP with the BNC on the C2.

Hi
yes the Sony HIL-C2 you can find it really cheap.
As for the spindle motor maybe it's better, but the spindle from the X0 is also very very strong believe me.
The question is, that's a wonderful backup player to have and also plays Hi-Vision in style ;)
I have to inform my self with sony if they still have pickup's, spindles and belts for it...
As for the cheaper models they don't have... that's the thing i don't like about them.

For LD playback the C2 has the typical Sony grainy picture, I've worked on one.

Hi Kurtis

Good to hear from you... :)
I didn't know that, tanks for the tip. But the grainy picture applies also to Hi-Vision?

There is also a player that still has a good value, even in the Japan market, and it's a beautiful unit, the Sony MDP-999.

You see the problem is that fixing a Pioneer by one way or another it's something that can be done, and Sony is not that easy.... at least in my country.

I hear the MUSE performance is rather good on the late-model Sony players.

I would love to watch a Sony HIL-C2 working, playing for example "A River runs Through It" on Muse Hi-Vision... (One of the Best Hi-Vision discs in my opinion....)
