Well the boss recorded onto the HDD of the 2160. Unfortunately instead of using pause between each scene, she used stop then record. So now I have 11 recordings on the HDD.:(
I have burned them onto a DVD-RW and tried some stuff on the pc, but so far found nothing to combine them. (Like vobedit)
So which is the freeware on the pc to combine these separate recordings into one single recording?
PS. At 173 VHS to DVDs converted.... thanks to AVS members :D

Download the trial version of TMPG DVD Author. Open the program, and use it to load the contents of the dvd-rw to a project with all segments inside of one title. Segment will become chapters within the title. You can select a menu if you wish. Then build the dvd as a single program. Burn to disc.

Meanwhile, 1 Hour later...
you could dub the dvd-rw back to the hdd...wouldn't that make all the separate a single title when completed? Would picture quality take a hit?

Nope- all still separate, and a big hit- runnning the video twice thru mpg2
Will try TMPG DVD Author, thanks
I still need a FREEWARE program tho, tmpg is 15 trial, with limitations
A Mac OS solution probably won't help you, but I'm pretty sure MPEG Streamclip can copy and paste from multiple MPEG-2 files to produce a single file. I've done it once or twice on a smaller scale, replacing a bad section in a recorded TV program with a clip from another airing of the same program that had a glitch in a different spot.

The limitations are minimal, in my opinion.
Trial Version Information:
* This software is a trial version freely usable for 14 days.
* After the installation, an internet connection is required to receive your temporary license validation.
* There is a software launch delay of 10 seconds.
* Project files cannot be loaded or saved.
* Limited menu template and menu item library.
* Custom menu templates cannot be loaded or saved.
* A watermark appears on menus.
* For more information on using this software, consult the included help file.
If you were worried about the project save line, that just means the session where you create your dvd cannot be saved to a project file, that you can re-open, and alter and make another, slightly different dvd.
You could try DVD Shrink then. http://www.videohelp.com/tools/DVD_Shrink Ir has a Re Author mode, which allows the combining of multiple segments from dvd files transferred to the pc hard drive imto one dvd folder which can be burned to disc, or used in another dvd software program.
DVD shrink gives back an error:
'Invalid DVD navigation structure'
OK I'll wait for a 2160 owner that has done this for the solution to combine the titles, prolly in a pc, and put it back into the 2160 HDD
I need to do this each time they don't properly record using 'rec-stop-rec' instead of 'rec-pause'. So trialware is out.

You cannot combine titles on the internal hard drive of the 2160. You could "play" them back in real time through the input and then make one title that way.
