The issue is, is that I'm a Moron :(

This weekend I thought I would take my 127gigs of music and put it on the PS3...... It got to about 79% and locked up. I rebooted and I have about 98gigs installed.

Anyway, I didn't know that it was such a PIA to access the music - What I mean is, an individual file for every artist? I assumed there was a music player of some sort, kind of like iTunes..my mistake.

I would like to take off all the music but it won't let me, it gives me an error when I try to select all. Of course I don't have a current backup either.

Is there a music management program for the PS3 thats better than the xmb?

Can I just backup the games without the music?

Thanks,

Thumbs up for being honest.

Before you go deleting everything, I'm sure we can get it to work for you (I had the same frustrations initially). Now exactly how do you want to navigate you music collection?

A smart guy would have backed up his system and put only a couple gig of music on it to see what would happen......me, not so much.

I have about 19K songs or roughly 3500 artists.....it's a mess now. I've tried to sort by artist, genre, etc.....but there's just too much. I hold the scroll button down for 10 seconds and it barely gets past the "B's" :(

Ok, there's no way around that other than spending the time to make some playlists so you don't have to navigate your huge music collection again.

So yeah, for a user with that much music the PS3s music management may well be unacceptable.

The only other thing I can see that might work is if you have the official PS3 BT remote, as that might allow skipping to specific letters on the list (although i can't confirm this).

Well the BT remote will not help you at all. I have a similar sized music collection and have cursed the PS3 music software. They at least added alpha sort which helps. It is still more difficult to find one specific song. I oftem use Twonky and stream. They have fairly flexible sorting/grouping. If I want to play a genre or playlist the PS3 is fine.
If they would just add paging, cached sorted lists or stop the need to show every song or draw every icon while moving through the artist album groupings.
From what I read most music software does not handle large collections well. And if it does it tends to be a dedicated PC/Mac software.

Thanks guys. I guess I'll see if I can't backup my saves, friends, pics, and wipe the drive.....there goes a Sunday - thank goodness for football.
